Haven’t seen any VOAs of the SP formula on the internet. I know Pennzoil Syn has kind of taken a quality hit on paper as of late.

Local hardware store has some for around $3.50 / qt so I wanted to check before I just got something different instead.

Splain?

PYB used to be one of the best oils money could buy in both its SM and SN formulations.

I guess I’m technically an old school BITOG’er because I don’t check in that often anymore. I buy a ton of great oil at insane prices and then I forget about it for a few years until it’s time to hit the shelves again. Last time I had researched PYB (around 2015) it was still the golden child of the forum. Then PP was updated and it became the star. I saw the VOAs of the newest PP/PU and it was insanely disappointing. I wondered if the new formula of PYB had a similar drop off in regards to Moly/Boron and TBN.

That’s all.

I bought a bunch for $1/qt when it was on clearance at a local supermarket a couple of years ago.

Looks to be an OK oil on paper. I haven't yet used it. Viscosity is at 10.7 cSt, above average for a Pennzoil product in this grade. But at $3.50 it's meh, I'd rather spend that money on a synthetic.

Pennzoil especially the natural gas derived oil is one of the best out there.
PYB conventional is not made from natural gas. At least the bottle doesn't mention it unlike on the synthetics. Here's a photo of the bottle in my stash:

No the conventional is not a GTL. But is a GF-6A Oil which meets all the latest. 👍

PYB was a darling for two reasons back then. A significant dose of Moly and Shell apparently dumping GTL (never confirmed) in it. I'm sure the conventional is fine in the right application. But if Moly is what you're looking for, try Valvoline or it's less expensive product, Napa.

Research how all SP VOAs look dissimilar from previous certifications and you will find the answer.

Can you explain the insanity?
