For those with late model cars that spec 0w-8 GLV-1 oil, perhaps this will be of help. I couldn't find any except at my Toyota dealer. I saw Mobil 1 AFE online with the GLV-1 spec, but not at any local retail stores. I could find Mobil 1 AFE 0w-8, but not with the GLV-1 spec. I reached out to the Mobil help desk. Here is the response.
"Thank you for reaching out to us. It is a matter of pre and post certification. The Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-8 only has 1 formula."

You don't "need" 0w-8 as you can use anything listed for these new toyota engines.

It'd be fine with whatever 0w-20 or 5w-30

The manual of my Toyota states that, in case W8 is not available one can use W16 but then revert to W8 on the next oil change. Obviously, different countries perhaps and different Models, definately, have different instructions. Hybrids, even CH-R, Corolla, Yaris and Yaris Cross, Lexus, even in Australian have these instructions on their manuals.
If people wanna go higher grades because they think W8 is water, fine with me. The savings are minimal. Hybrids need thinner oils because of the constant short periods of engine run.

Only thing I gather from that is that M1 0W8 is not flying off the shelf.

How much are be betting that GLV-2 is going to be backward compatible with GLV-1, ie specified for the same engines.

Id use the 0w20 in that NY climate. Plenty good protection and the heck with saving approx 0.5MPG.
People need to dismiss all that poo-poo CAFE verbage and stick with what protects that engine best.

Why is that?
