Ford V10 and Synthetic Oils

Well, I put a quart of MMO in the truck this evening. We'll see what happens. I also grabbed a can of Seafoam, with the idea of throwing it in the truck a couple weeks before I change the oil next.

Hopefully this all works out.

Sounds good! Just don't use the MMO and Seafoam in the oil together. I'd use the Seafoam for another OCI for a maint cleaning at the very end of that OCI. Or add it to the gas tank to clean up the fuel system. JMO

Report back and let us know how things work out for you.

Oh, I figured if it used a couple more quarts of oil before I get it changed again, the MMO levels might be low enough to run the Seafoam for 1-200 miles.

Am I wrong in that thinking?

While I'm thinking about it, since MMO can be run on every oil change, could I theoretically run a 5w-40 or 10W-30 with the MMO? Or am I better to run just the straight 5W-30?

I have a '99 V10 in my SD with about half the miles on it as yours does. I bought it with 12 miles on it. I've never had the kind of noise you've heard with yours, but it isn't a quite engine by any means.

With a 40w it's only felt sluggish. With a 20w it seems fine. I normally use a 5w-30. PYB, Quaker State, M1, GTX, MC, PP, they've all worked ok. It's just a big happy engine with about anything, in my experience.

I normally use a Purolator filter, 3k mile changes, and consumption is in the normal range. I like my V10.

I will add that about 15k miles ago I tried the ARX treatment. What I could see down the oil fill tube wasn't too terribly bad, kind of a medium brown. After I did the ARX it was almost shiny as new. I was impressed, to say the least. If there was nay sludge, it had to have been removed.

5W30 with the MMO should be fine, especially if the engine is spec'd for a 20 grade oil. I don't know enough about Seafoam added to oil to comment about having it and MMO in the sump together. I'd guess for 100-200 miles it won't harm anything.
