As answered on the previous page, TSB is "Technical Service Bulletin" and the upgrade would be to a 3G alternator.

I have a 95 4.9 with the mazda 5 speed and 2.73 gears. Also has a 2" receiver hitch, so someone towed with it at a point in its life.

The axle makes noise, the trans rattles, and I think the U-joints are PO'd too.

I towed a bonneville on a tow dolly with it, figure around 4000 lbs overall. Gutless would be an understatement. I lost speed downhill in 5th so pretty much stayed in 3rd and 4th.

CEL is on, the codes are "up in the 80s or 90s" and I think it gets around 10 MPG. It's not all rusted out and still suits me fine.

eljefino: If the 4.9L is a gutless wonder (mine was too) might want to see if the cat is plugged. Mine was plugged solid and it would start and run fine, but barely get out of its own way under load. Gutted the cat and it was a massive wake-up. It wasn't going to win any races, but had no problem holding 110 with a several thousand pound U-haul trailer behind it with my buddy's 5.0L Mustang on it.

I presume "110" is in those metric kilometers per hour. Which I think converts to like 31mph in US units. In which case I believe you.

Just kidding.

With 2.73:1 I'm surprised it made it into 4th!

LOL! I must add that mine was mated to a C6 and had 4.11's out back

With that rear it must have been horrible. I had one with a 3.00 rear and a 4 speed stick that was a dog. My 5 speed with a 3.55 rear has plenty of power.

My father had a 302 in his 87 F250. Ran the truck up to a little north of 250K miles. Hard miles, too. Weighed the truck once and it weighed like 10,000 pounds with all the tools in it. Even had the original clutch!

I had a 79 F150 6 cyl and 3 on the tree and to date has been one of my favorite vehicles ever.
