I searched and didn't find an answer. Maybe some techy here can help. 2018 Ford Edge. Got a tire patched yesterday and a tire rotation. Now the TPMS is inop. The OM is no help explaining the 'relearn' procedure. YouTube videos seem to be biased towards needing a scan tool to reset the system. Is there a DIY fix or must I chat with a Ford service advisor?

You need to put it learn mode and “excite” the sensor with an external device on the outside of the tire on each wheel

Take it back to where they UNFIXED it and get them to make it right. Rotating the tires didn’t do anything to it. When the tire was repaired, the person doing it messed something up.

Or snapped the tone sensor or stem off. I see this very often at work

Looks like Ford needs a TPMS sensor relearn/training tool. Some cars can be put into a relearn mode and simply driven, but doesn't look like Ford has that option. Lots of Ford TPMS relearn tools on Amazon, but read applicability and reviews to ensure it will work for your model year.

Here's the procedure to enter the "Training Mode" if the special Ford $300+ scan tool is not used.

Once the "Training Mode" is entered, then re-train the TPMS sensors per the following procedure. Steps 4, 5 and 6 probably not applicable if just re-training the sensor locations after a tire rotation. I'm sure there are many YouTube videos on the procedure also.

I have to do this on the Transit just about every time the tires are rotated-do it when you have an air source handy! On mine, turn the ignition to run, turn the hazard lights on & off 3 times quickly, the horn honks & "Train Left Front Tire" appears on the info display. Let air out of that tire, the horn honks, go to RF, RR, & LR & do the same thing-let out enough air to get the horn to honk. If letting air out of one DOESN'T cause the horn to honk-that sensor is screwed up & likely needs replaced (broken off, bad battery inside, etc.). The procedure may be slightly different, but it should be in your owner's manual.

I had a 2017 Escape and now a 2020 F-150. I’ve never had any TPMS issues after rotating the tires. Take it back and make them fix it. They are responsible for the problems.

Did it take a bit of driving for the system to re-learn the sensor positions by itself? How did you verify they auto relearned their new positions ... did you vary the air pressure slightly and see them coincide on the TPMS display location on the dash?

Nope, no driving to relearn the position. I just make sure all tires have the correct air pressure in each before rotating. My Ford Pass app tells me the air pressure at each corner. Of course, it’s off compared to the actual tire pressure. Ford advises not to rely on the monitored air pressure. I keep 38psi in each tire. The monitor says three of the tires are at 42psi and one is at 37psi. Imagine that!

I have 2 FORD factory tons learning tools. Both work great, FORD is a bit of a pain in rear, GM stuff is way easier least I think so
