Ford Super Plus Premium equivalents?

Hi. I live on a narrowboat with an Isuzu engine which currently has the above coolant in. I had a small leak and need to top up a bit. I am without any other transport and need to get it delivered either click and collect or drop locker but can’t find this coolant on Amazon or eBay with this delivery option.

Are there equivalents that I can mix with this to allow me to widen my search?

Thanks.

An equivalent to Ford Super Plus Premium coolant (also known as Ford Motorcraft Super Plus Premium, often used in Ford vehicles) is a Glysantin G30 or any coolant that meets the G12++ or G13 specification.

Here are some common equivalents:

  1. Prestone Dex-Cool - Meets G12++ specification.
  2. Zerex G-05 - A similar HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) coolant.
  3. Peak OET Extended Life - Suitable for vehicles requiring G12++, G12+, or G13 coolants.
  4. Audi/VW G12++ or G13 coolant - Directly compatible.
probably the dex cool is your best bet. its a oat coolant.
i would flush system in the spring with something compatible that more easily attainable.

This is why coolants are confusing, because 1 and 2 aren't considered compatible, at least not in the mopar/cummins community. (Switched from G-05 to Mopar Purple, a non-2EHA dexclone in 2013.)

Hi. Can I borrow your expertise again, please? I’m struggling to find any of the brands you’ve named. Would you mind taking a look at this make and telling me whether it would be ok? It seems to tick all the boxes but I’d be happier having a thumbs-up from someone who knows.

Ford Super Plus Premium is Ford spec WSS-M97B44-D (or -D2 for the pre-mix), in the US the name was Motorcraft Orange before it was discontinued in favor of Motorcraft Yellow.

WSS-M97B44-D is a copy of General Motors spec GMW 3420, which superseded GM 6277M, aka Dex-Cool / DEX-Cool / DEXCOOL / dexcool, and whatever other way someone comes up with tomorrow to write it.

The one nice thing about dexcool is that pretty much everyone makes it, and the bottles almost always prominently say dexcool on the front of them.

The Holts product that you linked claims to be compatible with a number of different VAG coolants that have different chemistries, I wouldn't use it.

The odd thing is, if you go to Holts UK website and type in antifreeze, you get no results. Nada. So it’s not even possible to get a better understanding of it.

Prestone, on the other hand, give a solid guarantee that their antifreeze is mixable with absolutely everything …

It would be great if it was but how does that work?

I found a few with Dexcool on the label but none that I can get delivered to me 🥴

Where do you live that you can’t get something as ubiquitous as dexcool? I’ve use it in vehicles predominately because I knew I could buy more Prestone branded dexcool concentrate in the grey bottle…anywhere.

I live on a canal boat in the UK. I’m not in a particularly remote location, just that I don’t have a physical address so I have to get everything posted to drop lockers or click and collect. There isn’t anything on eBay that has Click and collect enabled and nothing on Amazon that fits the bill.

Rather than play compatibility roulette, is it easier to flush and convert to a coolant that is available in your local market. From there, you just have to change at an interval that is reasonable for that coolant?

FWIW, many of the HDT coolants are compatible with the dexcool type coolants.

If there’s really nothing compatible, I’ll just wait until I’m near a Ford garage. I don’t want to throw out a 10 year coolant two years after I put it in.

I found the Holts stuff on their France site, they have a whole lineup of vehicle specific coolants including one that claims to be for Ford / Opel and meet WSS-M97B44-D (should be D2 as it's pre-mix) / GMW 3240 (should be GMW 3420).

The SDSs for the -30C versions of the product that have codes ending in "B" have them named as 'Holts Corguard [Color] RTU', aka Prestone Corguard with different color dies.

The -37C "A" versions are named "[Color] -37 RTU Coolant" and the SDSs look rather differnt.

Amazon UK does have a listing for 5L Holts Ford / Opel, however the product code in the title ends with "B" but goes on to say it's good to -37C and the image has -37C on it as well.

Prestone UK only has a single coolant, -37C in concentrate or Ready To Use (RTU), so it looks like they may have reformulated?

Anyway I would say the Holts / Prestone (same ownership) is safe, as I previously mentioned Ford changed from dexcool to Prestone Corguard and considers them fully compatible.

you could always do distilled water for now and worry about it later.

isn’t Holts the British version of Prestone? If so, their coolant is the same as Cor-Guard we have here in the US?
