Ford Ranger "Performance Air Intake Add-on"

Anyone ever see one of these? Curiosity aroused browsing parts on ebay for my truck, I wonder how this little mousetrap thing works? Hmm I guess I can see something to do with direction of airflow in spiral?

It is essentially one of those "tornado" air spinners. The only thing it does is spin money out of your wallet and into the pocket of the seller.

Supposed to tumble air for a better mix. Problem is, its so far away from where the fuel actually mixes with the air in a fuel injected vehicle all the tumble is long gone. All it does it restrict the intake where it is. Trash.
Something else common on ebay are $50 'chips' that plug in to the intake temperature circuit. All those are is a 5 cent resistor to trick the computer into thinking it is getting colder air than it really is. It then will make the mixture richer, at least until it goes closed loop.

I recall reading an article where they tested a vehicle with many different "mpg increasers" including something similar to what's on the link. No gains.
