Ford Halts Production of F-150 (various models)

sierra and Silverado are two separate models, under two separate brands. . I don't care that they are the same truck, that's gm's fault for making that stupid decision. class dismissed.

GM is laughing all the way to the bank. That's quite the "stupid decision" when you sell more trucks and make more money vs the competition eh?

Isn't this a thread about Ford trucks? Hey let's bring Tundra and a few others into the mix also.

It's a shame that Ford stopped selling the Fusion rather than keeping up with the competition like Camry and Accord. The Fusion was an excellent car but Ford did cosmetic upgrades rather than real ones. The Focus was also a good car that was plagued by a TERRIBLE automatic transmission that Ford refused to fix. The Fiesta ST would sell well if still available at a decent price (the UAW's demands are going to do to the American auto industry what unions did to the British auto industry IMO). I was always a 'Buy American' guy but not anymore.....it's Japanese for me now.

So? I don't care what the parent company is, nor do I care what the GM shareholders think about sales. Doesn't change a thing about the truck brand sales. We are talking about branded trucks: Tundra, Ram, Chevy, GMC, and Ford. I couldn't care less about the parent company that owns or may own a brand. If GM owned Ford, it still would't matter. Facts are facts. The Ford F-150 has been the best selling pickup for 47 years straight. You can hem-hall around about the parent company of other brands all you want to make yourself feel better.
I guess we're looking at this differently. No way you would convince me of your opinion. Gm trucks have many years outsold Ford, it's just the different branding that gives ford the wind. They sell less trucks period.

It's just a glitch due to how the companies are setup and divided. Ford is both a manufacturer and a brand, whereas GM is a manufacturer with Chevrolet and GMC as brands. GM doesn't sell anything under its own name.

Looking at brands, Ford branded trucks sell more than GMC, and Ford branded trucks sell more than Chevrolet.
As a manufacturer, Fords truck sells less than GMs truck(s).

If GMC and Chevrolet sold completely different models under their respective brands, then the Ford guys would have a point.

But the Sierra and Silverado are literally the same truck. The difference between them are the same type of differences you'd find between a Lariat and a King Ranch for example.

you're being disingenuous, the debate was about what is the top selling vehicle model. The top selling model is the f-series.

they are not the same truck, one is a sierra and one is a Silverado. no one cares that gm is the parent company. that has no bearing on the sales figures. just because gm is cheap and uses the same parts across the entire line up does not mean that you can pick and choose what sales count as one and what doesn't. the sierra sells x amount of trucks and the Silverado sell x amount of trucks. the f-series sells more than they do. no one combines multiple models to come up with the total sales, when regards to a specific type. that's just stupid. its just so you can justify your argument.

No. Ford says "F series is best selling truck". There is no single truck in the F series. It's a SERIES. It includes F150, F250, F350 etc.

If Ford can combine all their trucks like that then so can GM.

If you want to say Ford 150 is best selling truck then you need to add up GMC + Sierra 1500 and F150 still loses. The GMs are the same truck.

Ford picked and choosed when it chose the series.

No it doesn't. Silverado + Sierra sales outsell F series.

Marketing is stupid, and so is Fords claim. Congrats on the illuminating moment.

I should have known you present that, your previous responses were indictive of someone who wouldn't know that sierra and Silverado includes the heavy duty trucks too. you have a fiat product as your account picture that should shed some light on the situation.

Truthful auto companies will admit a simple fact on occassion. It cost way less to manufacture "trucks only" than it does to re-tool assembly lines every few years to make and fit together all of the new cars they would design. All the new sedans , sports models etc that the car companies long ago planned they needed to make. They decided on their own that every three to four years they would make drivers WANT a new car by releasing new or tweeked models to make consumers want to keep up with the times + Jones down the streets. Economy slowed way way down. Middle class jobs left the USA like a vacuum and less middle class can keep paying car notes all the time especially at new car prices. They realize making trucks has so much profit potential then why compete with Honda / Toyota / Mazda / Nissan etc..... lets just make trucks and charge Americans a fortune for them.

I'll say this once more. The Ford F series trucks are the number one selling single brand truck, above all others. Chevrolet is Chevrolet and GMC is GMC. Leaning on an asterisk for a win is what makes a company second best. I won't ever see it any other way until Chevrolet OR GMC sells more pickups than Ford, on their own without help from one another. I don't know the sales figures for Honda and Toyota, but goes Honda/Acura out sell Toyota?

Full disclosure, I drive a Chevy truck.

I don't have a dog in the fight. GM selling more units across the brands "should" make them more money. So Ford can have the symbolic victory of the largest selling model. GM will keep making money selling more of the "twins."

Unless Ford makes enough on each one to make up for the difference, this seems to be a win for GM and her shareholders.

They re-tool and re-style the trucks every few years too. They all do.

I recognize the words but you lost me on whatever point you're trying to say. Sorry.

GMC literally prints money for GM. A massive portion of all GMC sales are Denali trim, and they are all ridiculously expensive and overpriced for what it costs to build them. Here in Canada, GMC almost tie Chevrolet sales.

I haven't seen a breakdown by income but I'd eat my hemi if Ford makes more money on their trucks. They also sell the most of any manufacturer to fleets and that's not exactly high income.

IMO Ford is the one who should be using an asterisk in their claims. "Best selling truck when compared to Chevy and GMC sales separately" is what they should be saying.

Years ago the story was that when you bought a regular sized 1/2 ton GMC truck the only difference between it and the Chevrolet model was the GMCs came with heavy duty suspension + brakes. Things may have started out that way with lots of GMCs going to fleet sales and construction work truck service. Who knows how long ago if some CEO did not say "hey guys, lets just cut some corners and make them identical and no one will even know!? Highly possible.
