Why do transmissions cost more than the value of the vehicle? I'm dealing with this on my neon,
For an older, low value vehicle, they may be giving you a high price to make you go away. Engines and transmissions are way more expensive than they were a few years ago not just because of inflation, it because when new vehicles were in short supply and got extremely expensive, people who would have otherwise replaced a vehicle got them repaired. Given normal supply and demand, engines and transmissions now cost more. Also add in all the recent new transmissions that are epic fails like all the CVT'S and some of the truck transmissions which are also inflating demand. It's probably never been better to own a transmission repair shop.
