Ford Considering Scrapping Lightning

To each their own for others, road warriors you might say it would be a PITA

For me almost never would I accept that scenario.
Ex. I’m going to go to my sons house around Thanksgiving. 253 miles- 3 hours 53 minutes
5 hours later I’m going home
No stopping or inconvenience for me except 8 minutes at most to top off my gas tank.
For some people, the stop isn't worth it. For me the disadvantage of stopping while traveling is offset by charging at home 95% of the time. Plus I have solar so no longer pay for fuel. On roadtrips I time my stops with bathroom and food breaks. Usually it's three hours driving, then a 30 to 40 minute stop. But some EVs charge in under 20 minutes, so it doesn't need to be that long. My particular vehicle is one of the slower charging ones. I was OK with that because I knew most of my mileage would be in my metro region.

“Just wait until Tesla builds a pickup, they’ll take over the industry!”

I've seem their vision of a "truck." No offense meant, but to me, it is one of the most hideous vehicles I've ever witnessed on the road.

No he got a trillion dollar pay package. Can’t innovate if you’re afraid to fail.

I like the unrendered truck.
SC, I'm curious. Are you buying one?

Regarding the $1T, we the shareholders voted for approval because we believe Musk will continue to make us rich via stock price.
We believe Tesla would be just another car company without him; he's wack. Musk took control about 2004, I think. Quite a success story, right? Your thoughts?

I shoulda bought the stock instead of the M3 in Dec 2018... Sheesh, what's a poor boy to do?

If you take a serious look at the metrics for Musk's trillion dollar pay package, it's more about bragging rights than reality. The likelihood of his getting there is about as great as that of his building a base on Mars.

@BISCUT , greetings.

Here is a question..if you could get a new cyber truck for $25k USD out the door, but had to drive the CT for three years, would you accept or decline the CT?

EM accomplished at least one thing with the CT, he got the attention of young boys with the truck. My two grandsons love trucks, but they can't tell a Chevy from a Ford from a Dodge from a Toyota. But they not only know the CT, when they see one they point it out every time.

15 +/- years ago GM stated it's biggest challenge was young people were no longer interested in vehicles on a MACRO basis, very different from prior generations.

Maye EM is playing the very long game with TSLA. Ford and GM have essentially given up in the entry level vehicle market, long term brand loyalty based on first vehicle is now in the hands of Japanese and Korean labeled vehicles. Maybe EM knows this and is building a brand loyalty that will buy Tesla a decade or two from now.

Likely. Of course people said that about Tesla in 2014. Or about landing a rocket ship right side up. 🤷‍♂️

If they start offering them with a VQ40 for < $50K then I am a buyer. :ROFLMAO:

Seriosly, I am not saying it was a commercial success, just that I like them. I am not an EV buyer. I am not against them (now that there is no tax rebate). To each there own - I was never there target market.

I think Elon is the genius of our time. Time will tell, but if you read about Henry Ford or Graham Bell or Isaac Newton - they were all whack also.

A genius at taxpayer expense. Give me a few million dollars and I'll come up with a new idea too! Ford, Bell, and Newton weren't given control of the country!

Not so sure. Musk put his Paypal fortune on the line at Tesla; he was basically broke in 2018 when the new Fremont manufacturing lines kept going down. In a last desperate act, Musk put up the famous tents and started assembling Model 3s in the parking lot. Our '18 Mid Range was made in one.

Here's a pic of a 3 on the parking lot tent.

I know so many crap on Teslas, but after living with 3 of them, I really don't want any other car regardless of my opinion on Musk which already wasn't that positive before the politics just because of his public behavior. They're just easy to use, blindingly quick, and I drive anywhere knowing I have the Supercharger network.

100% agree; I have never been so satisfied with a car as with our M3P. Ditto the 1st one.
We worginally bought the '18 Model 3 Mid Range on a lark; I could not test drive it due to a recent surgery. It was really for wifey. I came to love the car, appreciate the home fueling, etc. The '24 Model 3 Performance in on another level.

If I were in the market for an EV pickup, it would be the Lightning or Rivian, maybe. But I'm not, our trusty '01 Tundra is doing just fine.

While the CT has some evolutionary aspects, I consider it a "look at me and my $$".
I feel like CT or any new EV recently no offense is you have money to set on fire . The depreciation is intense. Slightly used another story.

I bought for my wife first as well. I didn't test drive the Model 3. I had driven plenty of Model S previously so I knew what to expect and while I liked them, I never had the intention of going electric for my daily. That Model 3 grew on me and now we're where we are now. While i had originally planned to get the M3P and bought the MYP because of the deal I got, last weekend proved it was the right choice. I picked up an oven in my MYP. It wouldn't have fit in a M3P. That GTI convinced me I needed a hatch and it came in clutch in a pinch driving to Chicago to pick up an oven after the shipping company failed me. The round trip took a single 10 minute Supercharger stop for $5. Can't beat that. I would have made it on one if I fully charged the car, but it was a last minute decision to make the run. My wife's Juniper would have handled it with ease even charged to 80%, but I didn't want to steal her car from her for the day.

Depreciation is intense if you feel the need to constantly trade. If not, the gas savings alone more than beats any form of depreciation after 10 years.

No doubt. My trusty '01 Tundra ain't going nowhere...

I knew I was an early adopter with the '18 Mid Range.
Now, the '24 M3P is far and away the best performance car, and fun, for $55 large. Nothing else is even close. If something happend to thi one, I would order another tomorrow. It's that good.
