Ford 300ci 6-Cylinder Engine

It occurred to me just now that I don't think I've ever seen a Fox-body Mustang with a straight-six. I even had to look it up on Wikipedia just now to be sure it wasn't a fluke. Fairmonts, yes, lots of them, but not a Mustang.

Suddenly I want one!
3.3 I6: All the power of the 2.3, all the gas mileage of the 5.0. If you get one, immediately replace the carb with something newer. I was told, after it was too late, that Holley makes something that will fit.

I had a 1990 Ford F-150 with an inline 300 six and it had a 5 speed and was a 4x4. That truck sat up high for a 1990 but it was not the actual highboy truck that Ford made. Another one I should have kept.

My '76 E100 had the 300 with the one barrel...drank fuel like Niagara Falls.
NOTE: That truck was so stripped there was a hole on the ashtray for a lighter to be installed. It had the smallest gas tank Ford ever made.
The trim level was so low it didn't even have its own emblem; Econoline 150 is what it read though it was a "100".

The thing most don't realize is that the 300 will make some serious power.

They Rebuilt a 88 hp, 188 ft lbs of torque 300 I6 for power and got 270HP, 338 ft lb torque with a four bbl carb. They threw on a turbo and cranked out over 340 hp 436 ft-lb or torque out of that motor with 5 psi boost. 10 psi of boost they went up to 540 ft lbs of torque and 453 hp. They topped out at 592 Ft lbs of torque and 522 hp with 13.2 psi of boost.

They still offer it? Things are almost unkillable. Can't imagine there is much need for a 300 crate engine. Most guys would do a quick ball hone, new rings, bearings and a valvejob then drive it another 3 decades

Ford 300 I6 motor had applications outside of vehicles. Was sold and used in a lot of agriculture farm settings for things like stationary irrigation water pumps. Well suited for low RPM extended use.

I borrowed a 1996 150 5spd with that motor and was quickly in love with the whole combination. Would rather have had that I6 than the v8. i was in no hurry to return it, but did so at the planned time. Wonderful truck.
