The only questionable thing in my mind is what kind of driving cycle VW is basing its 10k OCI on. My wife's Golf sees very short trips most of the time with a handful of 200mi round trip highway stints during a 6mo. time frame. I suspect the recommendation for the 10k/yr VW OCI is biased heavily towards highway miles rather than short trip/stop and go driving.
I won't go the 10k/yr because of concerns for fuel dilution and moisture. Instead I do 6k/6mo (usually ends up being 6mo). When I changed it in Feb it had a nice thick coating of white goop (from condensation) on the underside of the cap and filler neck.
