One of the Focus's disadvantages is rear seat legroom. On the smaller side for its class. The new Sentra is supposed to have more legroom than ANY Nissan product in North America. I sat in one at the mall and the back seat is quite huge if that's your top priority.


Yeah I'm 5' 11" and 240lb. It's comfortable enough for one, and two. But 3 would be extremely tight

Maybe. After 8 years of ownership, I had paid (numbers adjusted for anonymity) $100k for my house, interest+principle; 45k was interest. House value at the time: $92k, according the assessment, down from 124k when I bought 8 years prior. What I could get for it? Yeah, not that much. Mind you, I still have 10 more years of payment. Maybe I'll luck out, and the value of the house will rise at a rate above inflation.

It's kinda hard to tell, as I can't tell how much rent would go up in the future, but in terms of paying less for a house vs renting it will be like 30 years after purchasing the house--and who knows what house repairs will do to that. If you want go include equity then that is the twenty year mark--but you have to sell in order to realize that equity.

I should have bought before the boom. That said, as far as I can tell, I am better off than if I had saved up for 10 years, paying rent and saving that is, and then buying. If one is committed to buying, it may well be better to do it now than to wait--but if you're not paying rent you probably could build quite the nest egg. Have to run the numbers.

Meh that requires me to go up on the roof to remove it from the hooks above the garage and I want to wait until it's warm outside or at least not this cold to do that. lol
 
I can't get why cars like the Focus aren't available in 2-door. Not that long ago a younger person wouldn't want to be seen driving a 4-door. 4-doors were for old family men and soccer moms. Even fullsize cars were available in 2-door.

The previous one was 2 door.. Bloody horrid it was.
I think the new 2012 body style would be decent in coupe.
What I really find annoying more than anything.... No wagon. They make an ST wagon even but we don't get a single one, not even the regular model. Massively annoying.
 
I know it's personal preference but the Foucs Hatch looks a lot sharper (to me) than the sedan. Still, the sedan is decent looking, I think.

The Focus seems to have one of the ugliest/most obnoxious center consoles/dashes these days.

Really? Doesn't seem a lot different from the new Elantra, IMO.
 
I feel this way about a lot of the fords lately. Too busy, way too many buttons and too much going on. That's my only complaint really.
 
the 2012+ focus will definitely be high on my shopping list, thanks for the extra pictures.

Your upbringing seems like trading vehicles often. So of course you would follow suit.

My parents drive cars to the bitter in and that is instilled in me. My parents both drive vehicles with 150k+ and are 2000 models (tundra & Forester).

Yes, I'm a homeowner but I seriously doubt the financial sense of it all.

If you do the #'s in what you pay in interest, taxes, upkeep, and time, I think you'd find that you will never really get your $$ out of it. Interest alone over 15 years adds almost 50% to the purchase price. Then there's closing costs and other [censored] fees, taxes every year, etc. And then that's hoping you don't get hit with costly repairs: A/C, Heat, Roof, basement, etc.

Add up every little thing you've done to your house, include interest and taxes, a little for your time and you'll see a house is a money pit.


Depends when, what and where you buy.

My case in 1998 was dropping $4k down payment into $110k home. I spent $5k in renovations and $1100/month tax/insurance/mortgage. (tax deductible at 25%). 5 years latter my $4k downpayment + $5k repairs turned into $226-$98k which is approximately $120k.

I don't count the mortage/tax since that would be rent or really less in the same town.

Some of Hyundai's as well. Too much going on visually in my opinion. It's like they're designed for the ADD crowd...a simple and ergonomic dash (like in a new Jetta) must not have enough lights to look at or buttons to press.

I will say that the silver/grey plastic of the dash and console scratches REAL easy!

My Niece's looks like its older than it should for a less than a year old vehicle.

My folks bought older cars and spent quite a bit on maintenance over the years. That was fixing normal wear/tear and making up for the previous owner's lack of maintenance. My wife and I figured we'd buy new cars that could adapt to our changing needs over the next 10-12 years, and spend a little more up-front to get features that were not available in used cars when we purchased ours.

Yep - The Elantra is equally ugly if not worse
