Florida car insurance increasing at alarming rate ...

They'll probably make up for it on the renewal.
Yes, Progressive is bad for that...they did exactly that with my motorcycle insurance...so I switched to Geico...then Geico will probably do the same thing, and I'll end up going back to Progressive because they will again offer me a lower rate to get me back...it's a never ending cycle...

Mine went from $450-750-895 over the last 3 years. And I shopped around last weekend and it's still cheaper than multiple quotes. Increasing at a ridiculous rate.
They're all jumping on this bandwagon. You could sort of accept a ~10% increase per year, but 20, 30% Good grief.

Back in June I switched from Allstate to NY Central Mutual to save some bucks. Then I added another car and another driver to my policy. 4 drivers, 4 cars, $4700/year. My daughter and son are 21, 17. Had I stuck with Allstate, it would have been much higher. Had I tossed these two kids out on their own, they'd be paying that much or more for themselves, which would be impossible while they're going to college.

Years ago P.B.S. had a show about all insurance would become very high or out of reach for many due to extreme weather . Some insurance companies would also go bankrupt .

Insurance should be risked based, for years it has not been.

I do not see the fairness in my premium going up, to help pay for someone else in a high risk area.

If something is highly regulated, then it should be highly subsidized. In this case, there is low regulation, and high subsidy, with the difference is that the subsidy comes from the policy holders.

Insurance, being that it is required, should be provided at high regulation, and 0 profit.

State's Dept of Insurance for example, is charged with building codes enforcement, and new code development, none of which are designed to provide a better, product, but to limit private insurance company liability.

In some ways, it is theft.

I completely agree. If it's required by law to have insurance, then the gov better keep their hands in the pot and regulate it.

I used to work for a major auto insurer. You could say I “went with the Flo”. Auto insurer actuarials are not good right now. Their costs are up 30% on average due to increased repair costs. Here in Michigan, my rate increased 20%, which is fair.

Exactly! I blame the car manufacturers for $1200 brake and tail-light assembly’s, plus another $200 to install….all because of a parking lot bump.

There is no law requiring insurance.
You are not forced to buy insurance.
If you want someone to lend you money for a house, then they will require insurance to protect their investment in you.

We can’t expect laws to regulate every part of our lives if we want to be free.
There are places in the country where insurance is reasonable should you need to borrow money for a house.

All I’m saying is people have to pay insurance rates for win disaster strikes and the money doesn’t come out of thin air.
Federal government offers flood insurance, which is nonprofit, and that is always on the verge of bankruptcy
Disaster cost money

My mistake, i’ll clock myself in the head and delete my post for some reason my brain was thinking we were talking about homeowners insurance.😕

As for car insurance, I think it’s as cheap as heck. I pay $1000 a year for two cars ensuring me up to half million if I hurt anybody, a half million dollars if an uninsured hurts me, a half $1 million if an under insured hurts me.

If either of the two cars gets stolen or damaged due to a natural occurrence that is covered too

Onl one car I have collision coverage on the other one I don’t bother with.

There are a lot of automobile insurance companies out there that one can check prices with.

No worries. I agree with your general sentiment regarding the federal government and insurance.
Yeah, and depending on how one reads words, I don’t wanna give the impression that I don’t think insurance is an issue with our lives.
It is kind of creepy but for me right now I’m more concerned homeowners as we downsized and moved near the coast, but I guess that’s my fault yet we are glad that we didn’t downsize to Florida as it is the Carolinas has much the same issue but a lessor scale even though my car insurance did not go up when we moved here

Consider yourself lucky. I pay 3x what you pay for 2 cars, and my coverage maximums are lower than yours.

I think manufacturers have realized insurance companies have no option other than to pay for the part, it’s another revenue source.

Meanwhile you can get a frame rail for $800 because you don’t want to total the car when you can sell more parts.

I am not enrolled.
You checked? I never enrolled and they had data on me.

Auto insurance is required by law in most states if you want to drive.

Our state made insurance mandatory relatively recently, millions fewer cars were registered overnight and the rate of uninsured drivers went up exponentially every year after becoming mandatory.

Seems like mandatory is less mandatory than absolutely nothing.
