Diminished Value with Automotive Insurance

So if the body shop does a completely unacceptable job I should just shrug my shoulders and say, "Oh well, it's just an appliance."? I'm sorry but I take pride in my cars and I strive to keep them in as new condition (which was how the buyer of my 2015 X1 described it). Shops that do a half •ss job may be good enough for you, but I simply won't tolerate incompetence.
Shops can do amazing jobs however insurance won’t pay for it typically. It should not leak though.

Example, wife’s aluminum hood got slightly bent. They would not take body shop try for new one and they worked on it with okay at best results. Aluminum is not easy to work with.

Purely based upon your photos, it looks like the issue is not the body/bumper repair, but a deformed weatherstripping gasket. If you look at the horizontal section of the weatherstripping, the gasket is clearly curled up/tucked inward creating the gap between it and the bumper cover. It could be that the body shop used an aftermarket weatherstrip gasket that is not shaped correctly at the bottom section. The horizontal part of the gasket should lay "flatter", just like the both upturned corners of the weatherstripping.

I would ask them to install a new OE trunk gasket sourced from Mazda. Also, it may help your case if you can take a few photos of the trunk gasket/bumper interface from a different, undamaged Mazda 6 of the same vintage for evidence of what it should look like.

Your passion is duly noted and we all have different priorities.

I maintain the mechanical side of our vehicles meticulously and as far as appearance, I try to keep them clean and presentable. There is a limit to how much time, energy and money I well spend to keep a depreciating asset pristine.

It's OK if we disagree. The world would be a boring place if we all thought the same.

To my knowledge it’s original, not been replaced in any of this work. It’s actually very minimal (the amount of work done with the repairs)

I think the rear body panel is bent, thats why the gasket doesn't look right, because what its attached to is not where it is supposed to be.

I'd be surprised if you can get more than a couple hundred bucks out of them on a 2017 with light damage, which is obviously not enough to put up with a leaking trunk.

I’ve been going round and round with getting my car fixed. I’m picky but I’m also reasonable. It’s a daily driver, but I hate the fact that I’ve been rear ended and you can still tell. I’ve been to 2 reputable body shops for maybe 8-10 times in trying to get the car right (accident was not all that bad).

Sorry if I missed it, but has this all been on the at fault party's dime, or have you had to push any of it onto your policy?

Reason I ask is, the way the auto insurance industry is handling things today, especially if you're pushing for extras and have to subrogate, you will likely get cancelled prior to your next contract renewal with them. Not a big deal really, but you're likely going to pay more for the next policy.

People are quick to say "Use your insurance, that's what you pay for". You use it, you 're probably going to lose it.

I’ve asked to talk to a manager because my claim agent and whoever her “quality” guy is have left something to be desired.

They are running everything though my insurance. They are the same company, safeco and liberty. I have liberty, at fault is safeco. They claim that they send it to a recovery team to get it off my policy.

They were reimbursing anything out of pocket for me immediately BEFORE, but now they haven’t been. My rentals also maxed out and my last rental out of pocket was about triple what it has been every other visit. It SHOULD all be reimbursed, it’s only been returned for a couple days, but like I said the first few visits for repairs, reimbursement was immediate.

I’ve actually already canceled this policy. This accident and the whole process has been horrible. Hearing everyone say you should shop around every couple years, figured this was my sign. They still are required to fix my car as I was with them for 10-11 years which included this accident.

Actually, water is getting in past the weatherstrip but it didn’t make it “over the hump” or wherever it needed to make it to get into the trunk yet. I wasn’t home all weekend so I’m not sure how bad the rain was here. It was horrible where I was but I was over an hour east, the way the rain looked it was really hit and miss. I don’t think water is supposed to collect on that side of the weather strip and just lay there. The right side was dry but left had collected water. There’s also green marker marks where I assume the body shop had some concerns or did some straightening.

I had Safeco and Peerless some years ago. Good coverage and reasonable premiums. Some years went by, then I shopped around got a better rate with Allstate for a few years, then went with NY Central Mutual. I got bounced from NYCM because of 2 comprehensive claims (deer hits) and a glass claim in a ~18 month period. NYCM was so easy to deal with and the repair process was seamless. They couldn't have been nicer at the time.

Shopping at that point, which was just a few weeks ago, was a real eye opener for me. Every agent and broker I spoke with said the same thing. Rates are way up and companies are dropping pretty much anyone who had claims. Couple the claims I filed with 3 kids with driver's licenses under my roof, I am relatively uninsurable at the moment. Well, insurable, but the cost is double what I was paying.

I follow this guy.

I recommend you call or email.

Please provide details if you do. Depending on where you are in the process and what you’ve signed, and of course, what state you live in, and what insurance company you have, will determine if he can help.
