Fleetguard LF3679

Does anyone know if the Fleetguard LF3679 comes with the Stratapore media? This is the part number that my Firebird can use (which cross references to an AC PF1218)

After reading about how good this filter can flow AND can filter out small particles, I'm VERY interested!

Does anyone know where in Toronto I could find them, and how much $$$?

Also, for those people who have bought one of these filters, does the box say stratapore media on it or do you have to just hope you've got one of the latest versions with it?

hi pat, i will look for you.....my fleetguard FL16002 says on the side of the filter stratapore..

so far no upgrade for that filter...for instance with my filter standard LF3681 and the upgrade LF16002...the only difference is that the stratapore filters 100% at 30u...where as the lf3681 filters 95% at 30u..they all the other specs are exactly the same...iwould go ahead and use the standard until the stratapore comes out..you can get these filters at your cummins dealer...i believe iam the one who informed you about these filters i wanted you to ck this product out.....the holes input and output are huge!!! let me know what you think..fleetguard sent me all their spec tech.spec sheets on these filters and their air filter in which i use also in both my fords.

I think I may have found out where to get some too, and it's right near my wife's work, which is only about a ten minute drive without traffic.

It's a Cummin's dealer and they've got awesome hours of operation too, Monday to Friday from 7am to midnight, and open both days on the weekend from 7am to 7:30pm!

I sent them an email asking for prices and some technical data, so hopefully they respond fast.

Yes, I do remember you telling me to check these filters out a few months ago, but I didn't think I could get them up here so I forgot about them until I started hearing more good things about them on here.

How does the standard media Fleetguard do in terms of filtration at lower micron levels? I understand the Stratapore can flow very well while still showing a nominal rating of 7 microns. Does the standard media flow better than the K&Ns or only the Stratapore?

I'm sorry to hear the Stratapore media isn't out on my filter yet, maybe by the time I do my next oil change in March, they will have upgraded that filter too.

I wonder if the stock sized filter for my car has the Stratapore media though? It would cross reference to the AC Delco PF25 (now I believe this part number has been replaced with the PF454)

Nevermind, I answered my own question, it looks like the stock sized filter for my car does come with the Stratapore media, that would be the LF3488.

But it also probably means my stock sized filter wouldn't have an antidrainback valve either, since the PF25 doesn't have one.

So I guess I'll have to wait for the LF3679 to get the good media before I switchover from the K&Ns.

That doesn't make sense though, how could they claim this new media is so much better if it's filtering at pretty much the same rate. Is the new media considerably better in terms of flow?

they sent me the spec sheet via email...call them and a engineer will be glad to speak with you..ask him to send you spec.sheet on your filter....

they also will explain to you about flow versus restriction both only 4psi clean....k&n is 5 and so is wix...fleetguard also tests every single filter where has the other companies takes an avg.

I sent an email to two different Cummins reps, but one of them had an automatic reply which said he was out of the office until the 27th, so it's up to the other guy now to respond to me with the specs.

According to Fleetguard's website, there is a big difference between their standard media and the Stratapore media. Read this from their FAQ section:

A: A full flow oil filter is mounted in full-flow, meaning all oil entering the engine is filtered. In full-flow filters, Fleetguard uses cellulose media (40 ? absolute) or upgrade media, such as glass fiber and StrataPore? (25 ? absolute). A by-pass filter is mounted in the by-pass, so approximately 10% of the lube oil flow is passing through this filter. Fleetguard offers "real depth filtration" by means of its stacked disc media. As mean wear particles in engines are in the range of 5 to 30 ?, these particles cannot all be filtered out by the full-flow filter, as these filters would be too restrictive. Therefore, the use of a by-pass filter, such as Fleetguard's LF777, will keep your oil cleaner and result in less wear on moving parts of engines.

Absolute means it filters out 98.6% of particles at that micron size.

I still hadn't heard from the Cummin's people, so I decided to send an email directly to Fleetguard this morning. They already responded, and confirmed this filter doesn't come with Stratapore media yet, but they did send me the specs on their existing version. Not impressive at all! I'll definitely wait for the Stratapore version before I consider using this filter. Here are the specs:
