FL-500s purchased from Amazon (not a reseller). I think the date code reads June of 2025.

Ran for 3,027 mi with Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 in a 2017 F150 5.0v8 with 107,527 at time of install.

Louvers were wide open upon inspection at time of purchase. Didn’t get a photo.

Adbv was flexible and intact. Extra glue on the end caps, but not much apparent on the media. Fairly tightly spaced except one spot adjacent to glued seam.

How easily does the black glue come off? Any loose pieces?

Lots of problems with these where glue is making its way past the bypass and into the engine.

I scratched at it with the gloved hand. Didn’t come loose. Did not see anything apparent in the media just pushing the pleats back and forth, but I also did not cut the pleats off the tube to inspect. No flakes in the can.

It’s all pleat side. The inside of the filter looked clean. I’ve seen some Mobil1 filters with glue on the return which would make me nervous, but I can’t say I’m too worried about glue on the filter side at this point. Maybe I should be.

Running in bypass with that valve design and glue on the top of the can is a concern, but the more I read on here and elsewhere, the less certain I am that this is something to spend a lot of time worrying about. I’m more concerned with the area and construction of the media so wanted to cut this to see and share.

Thanks for the pics. Filter seems to be catching all the junk from you using Valvoline Restore and Protect, so it can't be all that bad of a filter IMO.

Like mentioned above, people have found loose black glue in the drain pan during an oil change, so it can come loose and get into the oiling system through the bypass valve. If there's some of that glue on the base end cap right next to the bypass valve, then it can go through the bypass valve. I stopped using Motorcraft oil filters due to the junk black glue.
