Picked my first head of lettuce. Actually bunch lettuce. Nice big crinkly leaves. Made a nice bowl of salad, with cubed tomatoes, grated carrots, some EVOO and a little apple cider vinager.

Slow cooked some beef steak I dug out of the bottom of the freezer. Made a tomato sauce and covered the steak and baked it the oven for 2 hours at 300F.

Made up a package of Au Gratin potatoes. Supper for 3.

very cool....

I have not constructed a garden at this house...but I'll need my fix, even if I get six or eight hot pepper plants like I did during my move last year.

Yes it is. I come from a farm family. It gives me a special satisfaction to plant and grow vegies and flowers. I have this little raised bed garden behind the house, next to the workshop. We've had a mild winter and an early warm spring. The garden is 3 weeks ahead of schedule. Must be global warming, whatever the cause, I approve... Think I'll try making some Salsa this year.

Nice day yesterday, so I planted two each of 4 kinds of peppers (jalapa, cayenne, anaheim and yellow gypsy)

Gave me some small pleasure to work the dirt with my youngest daughter.

Today the hail beat them up pretty good, lost a few leaves, but I think they'll make it.

P, you have some interesting weather. Snow, hail, does it ever just rain?

Don't need to plant peppers this year, neighbor has several kinds in. Planted some more herbs, I've got several kinds growing now. Your daughter is what? 11? It's really neat to work with kids like that. I used to do some of that at 4H camp.

Youngest is 8.

Rain? - Too much! But spring is indeterminate in this neck o' the woods. I have a south facing wall that gets quite warm even when the temp is in the 60's. Perfect for peppers!

Speaking of vegetables we just discovered Asian vegetarian restaurants. The food is so good it's scary and super cheap to boot. My wife, who's always been a red meat nut would rather go to them than anywhere else now and I certainly agree. There's a Chinese and Vietnamese version only a few doors apart in 'Eat Street' in the suburb of Dickson. By the way do Americans/Canadians use the word suburb for regions in a city or something else?
