First oil change new (to me) Tundra 5.7

The 5.7 is a great engine. Mine doesn’t use a drop of oil. Lots of gas, but no oil 😏

I’ve been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30 since about 15,000 miles.

No difference in MPG.

The engine isn’t picky. Lots of good options for oil. Find what you can get at a reasonable price.
Is there any reason to run PP rather than HPL in the tundra? I assume initially due to warranty. I noticed that you recommended HPL gear juice.

I bought a bunch of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for about $21/jug a few years back on Amazon. A bunch. I have two jugs left, so this oil change (this week, it’s at 80,000 miles) will be the last on the PUP.

For simplicity, at the subsequent oil change, I will switch it over to HPL’s Euro 0W30, which is the oil that is run in a couple of other cars. I’m sure that particular oil is overkill for the Tundra, but I will sample at 5,000, and change the filter, and see how it is doing.

Funny all the talk of 0W this or that in North Cack.

Unless it a real synthetic, I would skip the 0 and go for a 10W30, unless you like super low cSt base stock loaded with goo.

If it's a mall crawler on light duty run whatever 5W-xx pseudo-syn. PUP is the the good P oil.

OP Jloy sounds like a capable gentleman.

Good luck and most of all, Enjoy the ride

So for your tundra and other you have used ow30 HPL, and i will assume it has been good. Might go that route with this thing. This is the nicest and most complex vehicles I have had, and want to mess with it as little a possible. Thanks.

With seven cars, it doesn’t make sense to use seven different oils…

But the reason for many different oils in my case is that I built quite a stash when things were a great price.

So, I am working through the stash.

I could make it simple and run Mobil 1 0W40 in everything. I am sure it would work well.

The Packard would love it, too, despite what some say about classic cars. It has a roller cam, by the way, because in 1932, that was standard on a Packard. Lesser makes used the cheaper flat tappets well into the 1980s. So, no, Zinc isn’t big concern for that car, but fuel dilution from an updraft carburetor sure is.

I will probably settle down on 3 oils - one for the V-12s and the R. One for the Packard (cheaper, because it will get changed every year) and one for the other two Volvos and the Tundra.

I have thought of the 0w40 M1 thing, might do that, then I would be down to 2. 0w40 and 5w40 diesel. Not sure if the FS m10w40 would be good in a kubota, or old 6.2 diesel. 2 oils is not bad.

Thanks for the POV
