First Marketing of STP's Synthetic Motor Oil ?

I had a '69 Cutlass which I switched to STP synthetic oil in the spring/summer of 1970 as my recall is working.
It was available in CA and I used it until it disappeared from the market (the local SF parts stores).

Does anyone recall that far back ?

Interesting, why are you asking?

Do you mean STP oil treatment?
 
A little online sleuthing says, yes indeed they offered a synthetic oil way back when. I was pretty young but recall it as well, and why I did the check.

I do recall seeing those cans around during the early to mid 1970s. Back then I was working after school at full service gas stations close to home. I do recall how it just simply vanished and I did not hear or know anything about any STP motor oils again until within the last 4-5 years. Suddenly, STP "fully synthetic" motor oils started showing up at Walmart and AutoZone.
