Everyone got carried away on this thread but I wanted to make a comment about what I found out on Friday. The law office that wants to extort money from me is financed by a group called la Mecha (spelling?) and they have a lot of money. One of there leaders is California's own Lt Governor, Cruz Bustamante. Their goal, as published, is the violent overthrow of the California State government and the return of California to the rightful owners, Mexico. Because of them, I've had to cancel my phone service and have moved out of my house until this is settled. I'm lucky, in that I'm retired and moving has been a good solution to stop the harasment. The law is on my side as far as the accident report but the law is on the side with the most money for everything else. Besides $25k, they want me to pay for being hit, they want other expenses incurred by the illegal that hit me on the freeway, his rental car and motel room which is near the UCLA Medical Center for his medical care, including denistry and plastic surgery. They have also moved other family members in from Mexico and may need another motel room. I know they are not going to get one penny from me but the law supports all their attempts and la Mecha is behind them financinally. La Mecha is a tax exempt group and with leadership from political leaders like Cruz Bustamante, they have a lot of power. Who knows, I may have to excape to Mexico to get these lawyers off my back. I can't go to the press because they support groups like la Mecha, and the government offers me no help, he only hit me with a car. It's not like he assulted me or called me a bad name or sold me out of date milk, he just hit me with his car.

A few years ago, we ended up in legal issues of a vexaceous nature. Cost us $3500 to get through them.
I don't envy your position, even 'though you will win.
I'm sure for quite a small sum the plastic surgery and dentistry needs could be accomodated by a large guy with a lead pipe.
