Filters equal to MC FL-400S

Now that Wal-Mart has discontinued the Motorcraft line I was curious as to what is a good replacement for the FL-400S? Dont say FRAM!

AC-delco makes a nice 400S equivelent including the silicone ADBV and threaded end bypass. I believe the part number is even PF-400S. Otherwise a Pure one would come close.

Just go to Pep Boys and get a Pro Line filter, they are Purolators and for $2.49 they are a good deal.

If you have and Advance Auto near you they have a very large selection of Purolaters as well as their own "red" can grip oil filter made by Purolater. Their red can filter is $2.48 I beleive. At least in the sizes I was looking at.

I'm kind of leery of running anything but MC. I tried a FRAM

one time and the noise my engine made upon start up!
Is it true Purolator makes MC?

BTW,I use to run AC-Delco on my 93 302; they make some good filters!

It has been said many times here that Purolator makes MC. When I compared the two 400's, I think that the Purolator model had the bypass valve in the "bottom" of the filter vs. the Ford having it on the "open end" of the filter (some think this is better).

Do a search here and you will uncover more info. At one time, I remember a thread (either here or Edmunds) that said MC specified a different media than Purolator. Maybe? a better media???

If you love MC, Autozone and Advanced Auto still sell them.

MC is the only filter I would use. Napa Gold would be second.

Yes, MC is made by Pur, but to Fords specs.

AZ usually has them in stock for about 3.49
I have also seen them at Pep Boys.

As noted by others, the MC filter is made by Purolator, but it is made to Ford specs. The most notable difference is the bypass valve location - they are NOT the same.

That being said, for an alternative filter, I like the construction and bypass valve in the Wix filters, including the Napa Gold or Carquest Premium (although it is still different than the MC filter).

You guys aren't looking hard enough. There IS a purolator w/ the bypass valve in the threaded end. They even have it at our local Meijer. I can't remember the # offhand, but I have seen it. The threads, gasket, and other dimensions are the same as the 20195, which I believe is the one you're talking about w/ the bypass valve in the 'wrong' end (this is the one I've got on my car now, but it's a Subaru. The whole 'Ford' filter thing is just an experiment).

But the media is thicker on the MC and there is a silicone ADBV.

It's a good filter, you won't find one exactly like it.
