I'm getting ready to change to syn on my next oil change. Up to now I've gone to the dealer every 5k for changes and tire rotation. Now at 25K I'm going to change to Schaeffer's and use 10K or 6 mo OCI's. I fully expect to change at 6 mo since I don't average a full 20K a year, but there will be occasions that the 10K will be reached before 6 mo. The main reason is the extra work involved in the cartridge filter on my '06 Avalon. Does anyone see a problem with the Toyota filter or the Wix filter for this interval? I don't find any other suppliers of the cartridge filters.

Pureolator sells cartgrdges for Ford ,Mazda and others. I'm sure Wix, Pureolator PureOne(if they make one) and OEM will do what you want.
I use Wix on two Subarus for 15,000 mile intervals, with insoluables of less than 0.2%. You won't even begin to stress any decent filter at 10K/6 month intervals.
Might want to use something other than Schaeffer's for 10k intervals on an Avalon. Try Mobil 1 Extended Performance or something else.
The Toyota 3.5 isn't terribly easy on oil despite its 6.5 qt sump.

I really don't see a benefit to the 10k changes, and you'd be jeopardizing your warranty in the event that something goes wrong. Considering that the Toyota 3.5 engine has had a handful of issues including noise complaints, I wouldn't do anything that may give you problems in obtaining warranty service in the event that you may need it.

Do a used oil analysis to assure that any issues aren't due to the oil. Any filter will make 10k/6months. Under that service virtually any oil should make 6 months. Unless it's at WOT up an 9% grade (in both directions
) you've got to be on the good side of "spent".
If the filter is good, I should be OK. I'm retired, on Medicare and don't hammer my cars. I might cruise at 75 on the interstate but mostly I drive as if gas mileage was the most important thing in my life. The only time I push hard on the accelerator(I finally figured out what WOT meant) is when I'm trying to merge from the "on" ramp. This probably means that 75% of those posting aren't sure if I should still be driving. Hey! I'm good for another 1/2 million miles. Maybe the car will be too.

That's serious mileage while in retirement. Most slow way down in that department. Should be enough to keep the skills honed.
