I agree, if your engine is running good and has received regular maintenance, it should be clean enough to run the full interval. But I would not push it out this far unless it's really necessary. The good news is, every filter has a safety margin built in, which means it doesn't just stop working when the rated lifespan is reached... but again this assumes an engine in good health.
