STP S10158XL or Fram Ultra XG10158 for '16 Toyota 4Runner?

Thank you everyone. I went with the Fram for the 20k rating and my observation for pleat spacing etc. I told them when the MM turns on which will be 5k, to get it done or see me and we will do it. Looking at inspection sticker from mid February, they have gone 6k miles since then and he said last OCI was in August, unknown oil/filter.

Filter housing and drain plug were WAY over torqued. 2 skid plate/plastic shield bolts were snapped off in the skid plate (got them out also).

Here is the filter that came out.

Looks ok to me. But the media app always to have done something or caught stuff as may be to my eyes fuzzy somewhat. Maybe I’m crazy not sure. Either way; filter did the job 👍🍺🇺🇸🇺🇸

I don't know about mileage or micron ratings but when I was at the dealer I asked and the factory Toyota filter from them is less than $7 each.

Since Toyota recommends 10k changes for the oil I would hope filter at least rated for that. I'll probably get one of those for next time.

Either way I'll try to help or get him to do the 5k changes so shouldn't have any issues from any of them.

12,200 miles later....no waving just go in direction pointed. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/12-200-miles-on-fram-ultra-xg10158-cartridge-16-4runner-vr-p-0w-20.386498/post-6990017

So the filter has been sitting on the shelf an was wrapped in paper towels a long time. I decided to cut it and open the pleats. Lots of little carbon things in them. I don't know how many miles he has on the vehicle now or long on OCI. Schedules not matching up so I think he took it to place by his job....maybe....maybe not. Last VRP added might have 15-20k by now.

I'm not pushing changing it for him. If he's in a jam maybe but with the exception of a feel good for helping neighbor most of my help services have been unrewarding if you know what I mean. Sometimes with pictures of some decent vacations away, with and without the kids.

In the next year or so I plan on building a two car garage, big enough for a two post lift. Working on cars is a hobby for me and half of me wants to help a few neighbors out and do their oil changes, basic maintenance and simple repairs like brakes.

The other half realizes it will probably be thankless and I'll be blamed for every unrelated thing that goes wrong. Posts like yours validate this belief.

Less than unrewarding to help sometimes, punishing.
One thing about Toyota is the center tube is always factory. Toyota filters, can or cartridge are made the same way. The center tube isn’t glued, and the clear resin is quite close to the pleats. An aftermarket may have end caps and media that leaves a considerable gap to the center tube.
Champ labs premium filters like TRD have a center tube of their own, so there are two center tubes in the assembly.
