I only have about 500 miles on my current oil change (1991 Pontiac Sunbird). I put in 4 quarts of oil and a half quart of Marvel Mystery Oil. I want to change the oil and add the Auto-Rx that I just received. I do not want to change the filter because it is a major PITA. If I leave the filter on, will there be enough MMO left in the system to interfere with the Auto-RX?

How many miles are you planning to drive with the current OCI? I'd leave the current MMO fill in for this OCI, run the next OCI without any additives, and then use ARx on the follow on. That would probably have you running a no additive OCI during the heat of your summer and using ARx when the temps are a little cooler. This is just my preference when altering/thinning a PCMO, and changing between additives.

I'm guessing it will take me a year to reach 3k, therefore, I am doing seasonal (6 month) OCI's regardless of miles. My concern is that the engine is probably sludged and can benefit from the ARX. Also, will probably drive the Jimmy during the winter and park the Sunbird, so, if I wait, I won't se the ARX until next year.

I wouldn't worry about it.
The MMO should do some cleaning.
Many here swear by it.
Run 3K on your current change.
Run 3K on a no-add change.
Then run the ARX.
MMO is cheap, but many here think it works.
ARX is more costly, but many here have used it and like it, including me.
Patience is a virtue.

Leave it MMO in .
Change the oil when you normally would.
Then Rx it or whatever you like.
the filter? It should be in good shape unless you removed a lot of heavy deposits.

I have used Auto-Rx in the past. Don't know if I "needed" it, but thought it was a good preventive on used cars whose maintenance history I did not know.

After only 500 miles, the oil was extemely dark, so I am guessing that there are some sludge issues that the MMO was working on. I changed out the oil but not the filter and added the Auto-Rx.

Knowing my neighbor's driving habits, I am guessing this car was driven short distances and in town only for its entire life. I'm thinking this auto is definitely a candidate for Auto-Rx.
