If it was mine I wouldn't worry about the bypass setting, but that's just me. For more clearance, the smaller ST3614 might be just the ticket.

I know it's not going to hurt it. It just keeps bothering me for some reason, I just need some reassurance. I can get the Wix 57035. It's a direct replacement and cost nearly $12. I may have to get it to sleep well, Although I know I dont need it. Next time i'm going with something smaller and better, I just had that one lying around.

If this is a smaller Intek engine used on a walk-behind mower (~7 hp or less), be aware that you don't have a pressurized oiling system according to my B&S shop manual. The "pump", such as it is, is confined strictly to filtration duties. The actual engine oiling system is otherwise conventional B&S design with an oil slinger providing lube to the moving parts.

I got a st16 on it barely. Should I change it or will it do fine on this engine? I just worried about the bypass settings and it being so close to the engine.

Yep, like all the other posts on this topic, a FL400S is typically the longest filter that will fit small engine appications (nearly all of them). If you have the clearance, run a FL400S or the X-ref of your choice.

-Clayton-, I have a large generator with a B&S 18hp Vanguard 2-cyl that uses a spin-on filter. I went to NAPA to get a NAPA Gold (Wix) filter and was taken aback at what it cost. Your price was $12 ... mine was $13 and change, if my memory's accurate. Not sure it was the same part number.

I went 100 yards down the road to Advanced Auto and bought a Purolator L10241 for $3-4. It's a touch oversize but there's plenty of room inside the generator frame for larger filters.

The st16 was just temporary. I just wanted to make sure there would be no bad side effects from using that filter. I picked up a st3614 and used the rest of my M1 EP 15w50 from my hydro fluid change, and probably wont touch it again until this time next year.

Thanks,
Clayton

I think that as long as the ST16 doesn't leak, you'll be fine! The mount should have enough area for the filter's gasket. If so, you'll have no problems.

For better peace of mind, xreference the PH3614(Tundra) and PH3600(Taurus) with whatever brand you choose.

And, if the ST16 fits, try the ST8a.

Gary, I'd think an Amsoil dual remote would be a good choice

Wix makes two filters for these engines;
57035 Short version ($4.85 @ filter1.com)
51348 Long version ($3.63 @ filter1.com)
Filter1 has free shipping with an order over $50.

Here
is what mine looks like. Look close at the filter location and you will see why I was nervous runnin a st16, It was right up against the block.

I see what you mean. A long filter would sit right next to the cylinder head cooling fins. Probably wouldnt make a difference, but who knows. The filter aims right out the side on my kohler.

I tried it wouldnt fit, A bolt in the intake was keeping it from starting.

Yeah, the gaskets on PH8A equiv's will hang partially over the mounting base on my kohler command 20 horizontal shft. Room wise I could fit a coffee can in there!

Might try purolator. I plugged the B&S number (492932) for my intek v-twin into their web site and it came back with L10241 for the purolator equivilant. Did a quick search for this part number and it comes up costing less than $3.
