Fed Up With Progressive's Snapshot Device

Geico doesn't have this (yet) but they ask 100 invasive questions that seem set up to trap people in a lie.

I live 60 miles from work (one way) and tried to tell them I use my car for commuting, 15k miles a year.

Well the math doesn't work out, they say.

I ride a ride-share van most of the time, but not always. But I can't tell them I don't commute in my car, eg if I work OT and have to skip the van.

So I tell them I drive 28k a year. It's only a few bucks more.

How about unlimited miles, and I can do everything but uber and pizza delivery? I'd go for that.

Yeah. In a "deregulated" state the electric company is remotely turn peoples thermostats up. Freedom!
Well, they did sign up for that plan. They exercised their freedom to not read the terms and then were shocked when the utility did what they said they would.

When you give it away, it's hard to blame others for your loss of freedom.

I got to agree. Drives me nuts when people do not accept resposabilty for their own actions. Todays society blames their misery on someone or something else. Nothing is anyones fault anymore, they are victims. This type of thinking is quite scary.
If one cant get a good price on insurance its a pretty good bet that there is a reason for it.

I pay pennies for boat, car, motorcycle and home insurance and I carry substantial policies. Its about personal responsibility (not someone else's) and granted, like I previously posted, get off your butt every year (or more) and get new quotes for all your policies from other companies.
Its just insurance, like oil is oil, gas is gas, all the same stuff, forget brands.

Same goes for anything else in life, instead of whining, do something. Don't like your cable/pay TV bill? Cancel it! There are other ways, research, piece of cake. Cut cable TV TEN years ago! Savings over that time are enormous, yet we have way more channels and programming we could ever watch now. Stupid simple stuff, but everyone is a "victim" ... and lets not even get into cell phone service )
Its easier to whine and complain instead of take charge.

Switch to Fairpoint.
Thanks. Have they improved? They were terrible a while back in the DSL days then disappeared from around here. I think they have entered the market again up here as Consolidated Cable. Terrible name. I'll check it out, but I assume they are an internet service ONLY, so I would have to get a Smart TV and run Youtube TV or something to get local - or maybe try an antenna again for local - which is 70 miles away in another state unfortunately.

Tried Youtube TV and internet cable. Not ready "beta: software on the Youtube TV, also not a great picture ( I'm picky that way - though I've lowered he bar quite a bit) and the savings was minimal for sub optimal result. Part of this ws Comcast say this trending and then jacked their HS service cost to compensate.
.Yes I have to try again - But its not "stupid simple stuff" by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm a Bell Labs Engineer (ret.) that set up manufacturing for optical amplifiers and switches that built the web infrastructure.

Because it IS political. "They" have made EVERYTHING political. It's like we have to fight against a "critical mass cult " (we are) everyday screwing everything up. We need this country run by "smart farmers" and after 8 years they can not run or be in charge ....they have served and are DONE, with no access to anything political.
"If only they did everything my way, then it would be OK." That's what I hear. How would you provide the cheapest insurance?

Within 10 years a lot will be autonomous, so this won't matter anyway.

I see plenty of people driving Prius and other vehicles accelerating into stop lights just to slam on the brakes, following too close to others, etc.

So how do we know OP doesn’t have a heavy foot? Lots of folks on here talk about how they know better than the speed limits, and are entitled to go faster, drive harder, etc. Not saying it’s the case… just sometimes folks don’t recognize their own behaviors because it’s their own actions that are natural to them.

Any time an insurance company comes up with something to save you money, there is an inverse and opposite purpose to make that same company money.
Accident forgiveness is my favorite. You basically pre-pay for your first accident, because you pay a higher premium to get 'forgiveness'. Hilarious.

I only Have their internet, but they did offer tv services. No issues with my high speed connection.

I would’ve blown the discount this morning.

On the road for ten days, home last night. Pick up the Mercedes at the airport.

Beautiful, sunny day, stuck in traffic for a while, then, the back country road opens up…no cars ahead of me…so…

I'm in a very rural area closest big city 20 miles away 16k people. Had the devise at height of covid and was hiding out only went out for groceries. So it wasn't a big deal but if i was still driving in rush hour traffic in st. louis there would no way to pass their set limits on stopping, turning and acceleration. Wouldn't download their app to my phone so they couldn't tell if i was driving and talking.

Let see, I would not follow the pre 1933 nazi playbook like a certain group is doing (D). And I am a highly jaded classic L. The (D) is the biggest BS party I have ever seen. I certainly would not have the government provide it. I hear how great Canada is from left people. Then hear a friend of a relative could not et a PET scan for 6 months for his cancer and in that time frame it turned into stage 4 and he dies just after the 6 months. My wife had breast cancer in the US and found it on Friday and she was in the hospital having a biopsys on Monday morning. Surgery 1.5 weeks later.

Please explain your 10 year autonomous theory.

If I can keep up the "B" rating on the device for about 7 more weeks, I'm in line for a savings of about $49 per year for possibly several years. We'll see.

Progressives device is a marketing tool, you can get a better price without it from another company.
Try https://www.esurance.com as a starting point and keep getting quotes all over the internet, the progressive device is mostly all scam meaning you have just as good a chance of getting better priced insurance with other companies.

Think about the marketing aspect. Progressive gets you to go through the trouble to plug in a device to track your driving, the people who do this know they are good drivers and are going to get a good rate.
So what happens? The device tells them they are not as good as they think and they dont get the big discount that they thought they would get. So what happens and why is this nothing more then a marketing device? Because Progressive still throws them a bone and gives them a little "discount" not as much as they thought they would get but human nature is to be lazy, more so after going through this whole driving tracking thing, so the lazy consumer accepts the Progressive "discount" price even if it isnt close to what they thought they would save and Progressive has a new customer at a better then industry profit on that customer.

Your better off shutting down BITOG for one or two hours and scour the internet for a better price, odds are you will save big money over anything Progressive offers.
You should be checking ALL your insurance against all companies once a year and ANYTIME a policy increases in price.
Its just insurance, just like oil is oil, cant figure out why anyone is loyal to any of them, its business to extract as much money as they can from you. Are you loyal to the brand of gas you put in your car? Then why be loyal on insurance?
OK, I'm adding my info to this site. We'll see what they have to offer.

Instead of whining, do something like get a quote that's $80 a year more from the link you replied with?

It offered me about $600 a year for the same coverage, which I think is about $80 more than I now pay.
Insurance these days is expensive due to many factors.
I doubt any of them will offer me coverage for less than I'm already paying Progressive.
One reason is because these days, if someone hits your right side mirror and ruins it, it costs lots more because they contain a motor to adjust it, possibly a heater to defrost it, a directional light, etc. It's not like they can just stick any old mirror on there. And if you hit someone's $75,000 Porsche, good luck with that.

Yeah, it is stupid simple.
Roku player. Literally 100's of channels, much are free.
Netflix subscription $13 a month. Apple TV $5 a month (in 4k too) Amazon Prime, free if you get Amazon Prime, Hulu TV less then $10 a month.
Pick one or two of the above.
All Available to watch through the newest Roku Premier Player for less then $100.

Like Local Channels? If your within 50 miles (not road miles) straight line, install a big antenna in your attic. Wire it into your cable TV wiring that you no longer need since you aren't going to pay the cable company anymore.

DO a search for TV antenna aiming, the websites even tell you which way to point the antenna and where the broadcast towers are, how far and what type antenna you should use. Heck one of the sites is even run by and paid for through your paycheck every week curtesy of the FCC.

P.S. I wouldnt pick Google YouTubeTV if my life depended on it.

Hello?
You do know that you cant compare ins rates with other people and you do know I said a "starting point" would be esurance.com not the holy grail.
I mentioned that in the past. I also mentioned I have different ins companies for my cars then I do for my boat, then I do for my motorcycle, then I do for my house. Thats 4 different insurance companies, low price wins. Here you are using a tracking device with Progressive and another strange company is coming in "about" $80 and you still haven't checked another half dozen companies.

Too many factors, one big factor is credit score, another is where you live or if any particular ins company wants you as a customer for whatever reason.
Just the fact that "you doubt" "about"? "think"? means you haven't spent 2 hours or more searching the internet for a better price from as many companies as possible who will give quotes online and that's ok, we all spend money or what we want. I just thought maybe since you were using this device hoping for lower cost you were looking to save money.

Just trying to help, you posted in a public forum. If you like Progressive at any cost that is fine, but you say your "fed up with them"- if so, switch companies, maybe Im not understanding the reason for your post, but the good news is, others who maybe dont care what company will now save money because of my post.

I used to do the streaming thing. Then all the prices went up, and I like sports. Cable isn't horrible if you change your plan every couple years to the new deal. A couple months ago I saved $20/mth and added DVR. Same channels. They tried hard to upsell random stuff, I just said no a few times and got more for less.

Politics isn't allowed on this site, I didn't think. Still not sure what insurance has to do with politics. Private insurers, politics. I mean, it's "required" in states to drive, other than that, pretty loose. A long time ago, under a different name, I made a very non-political comment and got banned because it was deemed political. I'm basically just waiting to see if they still enforce those rules on here 😎
