Fed up with Facebook?

Yes yes. I was typing fast and combined a couple things there. Parler's app was removed from the Apple store and Google Playstore which pretty much have an oligopoly on internet app promotion. And Parler was kicked off of Amazon's hosting servers for not censoring speech that Amazon wanted it to.

People are kicked off of facebook and twitter etc and are told "just make your own site." So they do. And then Apple, Google, Amazon, Paypal, payment processors, and banks and other gatekeepers still try to destroy them.

I mostly use FB to keep in touch with relatives who all live in different states and to stay in touch with high school and college friends. I also go to the groups of stuff I'm interested in.

I just scroll on by the stuff I don't want to see or read.

Got off Fakebook and completely wiped the account two years ago. Don't miss it at all. The only drawback was missing my 40th anniversary high school reunion because it was publicized only there.

That happened to me too. For my previous reunion, I got all kinds of notifications in the mail and even my parents got mailings at their house. This most recent one though, not a peep. Eventually I got curious about what might be happening (or not happening) so I Googled "Xxxxxx H.S. Class of 19xx" and found the official facebook page of the reunion.... It had happened just the previous weekend!

Banks, credit cards, Paypal, etc, are denying service to people based on not liking what the people posted on Facebook. Some people will tell those people, hey, if you don't like it, just make your own bank.
I do agree about Social media but banks? I don't believe it until I see solid proof that it is really "social media" instead of some financial crime or court order.

Politicians though are different, they may have "national security" reason the government want to avoid (say the bank was told you are a foreign agent or some other nonsense). It is however not about social media post.

It's not unheard of for a bank or other financial institution to discontinue a relationship due to reputational risk. Generally though, someone has to do something pretty egregious for them to make that decision. I've been involved in these types of decisions on numerous occasions and at least in the decisions I was involved in the person was involved in some sort of fraud, money laundering, extremism, etc. Social media can and certainly does help uncover some of that activity though. Idiots posting about their crimes on Facebook, etc. isn't a new phenomenon.

oh, yeah, marketplace got really bad, used to be more legitimate
Marketplace was the only reason I have it, other than keeping up with family that is further away. It is so clogged with junk now, it’s terrible. I don’t go on it much anymore. In fact, I had deleted Facebook and was off for a year or so, but got back on to buy my current Jeep on Marketplace since Craigslist went south.

They go out of their way to NOT show you local postings anymore on Marketplace. Lots of ship to you, and the local stuff is much deeper.

My daughter in law makes good money re-selling on Marketplace, however.

I wouldn’t miss it if I deleted it. But, being a Jeeper, I’m always trying to just empty every pocket, and Markertplace is still fun to look through when I need to clear my mind.

Or simply AVOID all social media crap that in some cases leads to mental health problems.

Something is wrong if people have to be constantly checking their social media, if not they have anxiety and mental breakdown.

...with the person. You can't blame the platform. That's like blaming the vehicle when someone drives drunk and hurts people.

I mostly lurk these days and occasionally ask a question to friends in town but I'm a lot less involved these days.
