How do you feel about the Bitog rules, and what makes them different?

IMO, This site tends to appropriately lock down most if not all topics that are controversial and not just topics that don’t meet an agenda or narrative.

I also think this site uses moderators to monitor the site versus algorithms and computer logic.

I have no complaints about how this site is run because regardless of your beliefs or political affiliations we all play by the same rules. Not sure I can say the same for FB and Twitter.

I feel like BITOG does a good job about moderating content as fairly as possible also and I'm grateful that they do their best to keep politics off the site. I enjoy coming here to talk and learn about cars, not people's personal or political beliefs. I left what would have otherwise been a good F-150 forum awhile back largely because it had become hardly about the trucks anymore.

FB is very toxic place filled with 80% egomaniacs trying to ‘one up’ their friends on that trash social media website.

People are surprised when I say I’m not on that trash website.

Been off for about 5 years. People just cherry pick their lives and post that. Everyone has their greatest spouse, best kids, everyone is always smiling in the pics.

Facebook = place for the me society to Express themselves

I don't know what people do on FB to get so upset about it. I have family and friends on there, I hardly see them, but we know what is going on. A cousin I haven't seen for a couple of years is cycling the length of New Zealand, he posts his progress every couple of days. There is a local community page where the town posts about things going on...although it's usually my car was stolen last night. I follow a few pages that interest me...like a carburettor page.

What are you following that gets you so upset ? Unfollow - simple as that.

I'm probably on it to much sometimes. I post our travels and other stuff. Mostly family but a friends here and there. My extended family tends to tell my grandma before we do and that's rather amusing. I'm a member of few rv groups and don't mind offering good suggestions, too many just throw out answers without thought. I can understand why some don't like it, privacy is a myth regardless of what one thinks. If you have a credit score you're known.

I use it to connect with friends, high school classmates, and shipmates. The thousand and one ads that are now a main part of FB are irritating but it is what you make of it.

Only reason I have it is to stay in contact with friends and family that I don't see on a regular basis. Other than that it drives me crazy. Its probably the glitchiest website I visit and the lack of customization makes it worse. Get tired of seeing "most relevant" comments when I want to see all comments or seeing post that are weeks old. Seems like every other post is an add too.

Also most of the automotive type groups on facebook are terrible. Someone will ask a legitimate question about something they are working on and half the answers will be outright wrong or not relevant.

I keep going to FB jail for reposting what someone else posted or speaking the truth. Kinda tired of their censorship if it does not agree with their views.

I'd bet people can talk about politics, sex, religion, Covid, etc on FB way more than on BITOG. Think about that in terms of "censorship". We all know that whoever owns and runs a website makes the policies and rules. FB, Twitter, other chat boards, etc are no different.

You guys are doing FB wrong. I have 2 accounts, 1 with my real friends and relatives and I try not to do anything negative with it (try is the word), basically like my linked in profile. I will "unfollow" my friends who do a lot of things I don't like so it doesn't bother me.

Then I have a trolling account that I use to troll everyone on the internet, do all sorts of harassment, hate speech, reporting, scamming, stalking, etc etc. If it got locked I'll open another one.

Never been on FB and never will. It isn’t necessary there is texting, with photos, and real time video whatever they call it. My daughter gets me on the video talking thing and I hate it. Telephone, ok. Visiting in person, ok. FB is used for unhealthy things like bragging. Look at what I have and all that. Not going near it, there is something wrong there I feel, something not healthy.

While very quick to pull the lockdown trigger, BITOG does have real humans who monitor this site, FB does not. Case in point:
I've mentioned this before on this site, but a local Ford dealer posted that they were giving away a steak dinner to a contest winner. The contest was to show a picture of their Ford. They didn't state "Ford car" or "Ford truck", they just said "Post a picture of your Ford".
When I humorously posted a photo of my Ford, FB immediately took down my photo and said I was in danger of being banned because of my photo. I protested and again, they said my photo and my protest was in danger of getting me booted from FB and I was to drop my protest. I'm not sure what was offensive about my photo. Perhaps the algorithms kicked in real hard because it looks like a gun...or they are being policed by a bunch of tree lovers. Anyway, here is my "Ford" photo that I attempted to post on Facebook:

Back a few years after we started sickbikeparts.com my wife and daughters said we have to have a FB page. WHY? I ask......basically and they weren't wrong. Some folks do/did most everything on FB. Although this has tempered a bit lately

Anyway so I make a facebook page, being an idiot I used my real name (duh) because must have a personal page to make a biz page, (Their rules in 2013 or whenever). Anyway, yes indeed. It worked OK. Pain to keep up though. Seemed like I was doing all the work.............fast forward........whenever I went into facebook it automatically starts some senseless video of some moron shooting mentos induced Coke up her twanger or some video that goes on for 20 minutes and shows nothing. Just stupid stuff. Period. I just became inactive. Stupid.

I'm fed up with FB and I am not even on it. If I want to share photos or text with a small group of friends, I message them.

These devices - and smart phone done wrong are a great way to ruin a culture. Should have seen this coming with corpoarte mid -evel managers and execs and their crackberry behavoiur decades ago.

When most of us here were kids we said the Pledge of Allegiance every day in school. FB , Truth, whatever new thing, are places people can start fighting with each other, division, taking sides. Indivisible is in the Pledge. Not sure if this passes but I put it on anyway. Remember even here people start not liking other people because they don’t agree on oil filters. Imagine a bigger topic what happens.
