Sometimes its less about the scent and more about how you're feeling when you always notice it. Positive feedback loops etc.
🤷‍♂️

I've read that your sense of smell is hard wired into the brain's limbic system.

“Hit a tripwire of smell and memories explode all at once. A complex vision leaps out of the undergrowth.” --Diane Ackerman, from A Natural History of the Senses.

Additions to the list:

Fresh-cut Alfalfa

Southwest Reno in the still of early morning

Ponderosa Pine

This morning I found a filthy fish wrapper on the kitchen floor. Tigger must have raided the garbage receptacle, pulled the wrapper out and rolled around in it. Then he must have snuggled up with Smokey because while he stank less, he was also malodorous. I just finished bathing my cats using fragrance-free Burt's Bees Cat Shampoo. They now smell very pleasant like clean cats should.

For me it’s Irish Spring original soap scent and some handmade soap from North Carolina “original pine tar soap” with 80% pine tar in it

Oh yea, alfalfa is up on the list for sure. Red clover is also great, but not many fields of that around anymore.

The best smell in my garage? Perhaps my Dupont motorcycle cleaner, smell just like lemon Pledge furniture polish.

The worst smell?
#1 Ford Motorcraft XL3 rear end friction modifier and #2 Carpro Ironx ( for removing Iron rail transport dust from new car paint ).

Both of those items have the worst smell this side of a skunk!
If even a small amount finds its way to the garage floor or shop rag, the smell is now in your garage for months!

What's your favourite scent? A couple of mine:
- fresh cat grass with gasoline vapors swirling around
- two stroke exhaust on an early morning river ride, bonus points for some fog
Add febreeze, and the smell of jet a or 100LL at the airport in the morning. Most people give me weird looks. Apparently it's an airplane thing....

Old car. Getting into the Chevelle and smelling the old plastic, vinyl, and oil was always pleasant.
Bacon.
Pizza shops.
Rain.
Pines in the mountains.
Fajitas. At a restaurant when they're brought out on the HOT pan, crackling and popping, onions getting the final grilling.

In the garage,
Rotella T4 has an nice bouquet, with subtle hints of gear oil
fresh bike/dirtbike/car tires

On the land,
Fresh cut white pine and chainsaw exhaust
Fresh split sugar maple
Fresh dug gravel.

Around the house,
Steak or pork on the bbq.
Most smells in the kitchen, but sometimes the wife gets a bit crazy with Asian food with fresh garlic, hot peppers and fish sauce at high high heat.... half way to tear gas..... Tastes good when she's done though?
A hint of wood smoke if we run the woodstove with the screen on instead of the door.
