Yes -- all my factory Fords recently have been terrible. I always dread the first OCI. The Chrysler gorillas are much weaker (luckily).

I have several for different size filters .From little tiny engine size to the size on a semi truck and most important a high quality strap wrench.

I've used filter plyers and the claw type as my favorite, cant stand the band style. the claw (if it fits your filter) seems to work awesome but you don't always have room for it, filter plyers are good if you can get room. other than that i once used a screwdriver punched through a diesel filter to get it off (not reccomended).

Back in ny early days as a the designated "oil change dude" in my shop I had one that resisted the strap wrench, filter pliers and my 24" screwdriver driven through the filter. Finally one of the old hands took a air chisel and very carefully bent the base plate up. That relieved the pressure and I twisted it off with my hand. I would have loved to have seen the gorilla that put that thing on! Now days I only change my own oil and have a socket style wrench for each of my vehicles. I use the same brand of filter each time. So far this is the best for me. I only tighten filters with my hand and at my age there is not much danger of over tightening.
My favorite Oil Filter wrench is the one they sell at Sears.
The "Empire 15 in. Chain Pipe Wrench" will make short work of any stubborn filter. The beauty is you don't have to slip the chain around the filter but instead let the chain slip over the filter and your ready to move the filter.
The old one I have has served me well for many years on all types and sizes of filters. They can be found on e-bay or at tool sales in used condition.
Great wrench for not only oil filters but stubborn pipe fittings and other tasks.

LARGE jaw vise grip
It fits 3 1/8" OF's and all the smaller sizes. Locked on, it grips very well. But the best feature is that you can go both directions, IOW you can "rock" it forward and backward to break the seal without removing....often the best way to get a stuck fastener loose.

The company I work for provides me with a car. They also have a large fleet of service vehicles, mostly cab-overs but also some pickups. When my car was in the shop one of the facilities loaned me a brand new F350 and I figured I'd repay the favor a little by doing the first oil change on it. Boy was I in for a surprise! If it weren't for the fact that they're now set up with a remote filter that's right at the frame below the driver's feet I probably wouldn't have gotten it off. I tried a rubber strap wrench first but I was going to crush the filter before breaking it loose. I finally had to hammer a screw driver all the way through as close to the base as I could get like others have mentioned. Whatever spec it is they are using is just crazy. Maybe they should check to make sure the tech writer didn't just copy the lug nut spec instead.
The only oil change that was that bad is the cartridge filter cover on my Iron Duke that had a magical ability to cinch itself tight and sometimes needed a 4ft cheater bar.
