Got this Ozark Trail a couple months ago. I think it was $11-ish. Not very happy with it, dulled up very quick. Still carry it for some reason.

Also got this little SlideWinder on me, use it pretty often, and screwdriver tips come in handy. Yes, it's due for a blade replacement due to staining. Still sharp though.

Do you guys actually use your EDC knife? To me it would seem annoying to have a knife on my belt. I live in suburbia, I'm not building a tent out of twigs just for fun, what is your use case here?

No belt carry, pocket knife is in the pocket. Cardboard boxes is #1 use for me. Outside of that it's usually cutting zip ties, or a loose thread on clothes or furniture. Or a fruit/veggie. Or to help me get a stubborn connector off without having to go back to the toolbox for a proper tool.
The most unexpected use of my pocket knife was recently on wife's Armada. Hear loud metal on metal screech when vehicle is in motion. Turned out to be a front passenger brake dust shield rubbing against the rotor. So I used the pocket knife to get in between the wheel spokes and push on the brake dust shield, and noise was instantly gone.
So that's some of my usage cases for a pocket knife. But I definitely use it daily for something.

I always carry a knife and use it more days than not for something. I don’t think the OP was thinking about survival or fighting your way in and out of Walmart like some EDC guys kit up for.

Never thought that tanto blade was very useful.

I'm a Benchmade hoe. EDC these days is a Bugout OD green scales and black nitrided semi-serrated combo blade. Carry when I fought crime and guarded the peace was a Benchmade Turret in same colors/blade combo. Before that, I interchanged a pair of original Ernest Emersons 970 & 975 CQC7s with 3.2" and 3.9" ATS34 blades. Still have them and the boxes. Benchmade did Lifesharp on both when I retired and they got put up. For now.

I’ve got several, including a couple of Benchmade hunting knives - but the one I carry most is a folding Gerber. No idea of the model, though I am sure it’s discontinued, it’s in the $75-100 range. Brought it a dozen years ago. Slim, convenient size, nice blade, holds an edge.

Benchmade Freak, the full size one, not the mini...but I wouldn't consider it to be an inside the pocket knife.

Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight with Lynch deep pocket clip. I use it almost daily. It has turned out to be my most used tool.

I admit to being a knife junkie. I look for a certain type of steel, former super steels to be specific like S30V, 154CM, S35V. I'm more into sharpening now and have gotten fairly skilled at maintaining a blade. If you let it go too long you may have to reprofile the blade and that takes a sanding belt and a good amount of skill to do correctly.

I have carried a pocket knife since I was a kid. For the last 20 or so years I carry a small lightweight Gerber. Great for opening those Amazon boxes.

I’ve been carrying a Super Tinker Swiss Army knife since I was 13. I still have that knife, though it isn’t EDC anymore. I mentioned it to someone one time and they asked if I was worried I’d lose it. It hadn’t crossed my mind so I bought another. I had the new one a week before I lost it camping!

My 15th anniversary with a company awarded me the biggest SAK at the time. It’s a mantel piece and too big to carry.

I carry a Super Tinker. For a brief period they made a Super Tinker that had a pliers as well. Due to some damage, that is now my checked luggage knife so I can carry a knife upon arrival, since I feel naked without it. I would feel bad losing it if lost luggage since it’s slightly damaged.

Yup, it’s McGuyvers fault.

The love for metallurgy, driven by knives, got me through college. I used to have a collection--something from every maker thereabouts--but sold most of them. I still kept the mule team 17, in K390. I never really wanted to be a collector, just wanted a good use knife that's easy to resharpen and have high edge retention. Turns out I really like the bi-metal utility blades. I picked up a simple button folder on Amazon a couple of years ago and use it all the time for EDC:

~$6 per folder, HSS edge for ~50c / blade. If I forget it at TSA, then chuck the blade and keep the folder. Wear it clipped to the outside of my pants and is easy to keep clean.
