Hi All,

I got sucked into the Autozone clearance sale frenzy, and came home with some Havoline Synthetic 10w30 for my 3.8 Firebird. So-- in it goes at the next oil change. I have been running Mobil 1 for the past 3 changes.

What can anyone tell me about this stuff? I tried to look up the MSDS, but I think the link is incorrect because it is describing a "blend", which is a different Havoline product. The other information on the Havoline site for it was correct to my knowledge.

I know they have a great reputation for dino oil, how about this stuff?

Fom what I have read, it is a decent Grp III synthetic. I also got 4 qts, not sure whether I am going to put it in my car with a 7500 mile OCI or the SUV with a 5000 mile OCI.

A GRP III synthetic for 2 bucks a quart is a real bargain! IMHO, the current trend to price the GRP III synthetics, Chevron/Havoline, Valvo Synpower, Pennzoil, at $4 bucks a quart has real kept a lid on sales & popularity of these very good motor oils.

By definition, the VI index level of a GRP III indicates better cold temp flow & more tolerance to high engine temps (less volatility) than a GRP II dino.

THe Havoline 10w30 syn has a 496 F flash and a -47 F pour point. So it has good temperature characteristics and will keep itself & the engine clean due to less oil oxidation problems.

Thanks Blue and blu [ha!],

I'll refill with it when the time comes, and maybe I'll even do a UOA of it. It seems that some of the other UOA's for it are from older formulations, or from engines that are really in bad shape. I appreciate your responses.
