Failed Washing Machine Bearing?

Parts are arriving. Of course, the one part necessary to complete the repair is on backorder for another week, and the online ordering system listed it as in-stock when I ordered. The tracking email even said in-stock. The tracking website then said backorder. I called to complain/find out when it would be in, and the CS rep refunded the priority shipping I paid for, and refunded $20 of the part's price. I'm supposed to be getting a call tomorrow to let me know when the part will be shipped out.

Am I right in assuming that the Electrolux brand carries lot of premium and $350 is mere fraction of the original price paid for that washer? Frankly, if it were my washer and if I had paid the premium price, I would be on the call to the company. if it were to break in year and half.

A malfunction in year and half and not covered by warranty is plainly not acceptable.

I got these on a steep discount at the local Sears since the washer had already needed the door's seal replaced, and the previous owner didn't want them anymore. Probably had something sharp in a pocket that pierced the seal. Still, contacting the company is a good idea. I've already contacted Sears corporate about this. Letting Electrolux know would be the logical next step.

Somebody somewhere got hold some magic fairy dust and sprinkled some around, because the missing part on backorder showed up at 9:15 AM this morning. It looks like my CS reps were able to work some magic! Assembly will commence.

BTW, I used Sears for the parts since they were by far the cheapest. And, my customer service experience after the initial screwup was excellent. I just wish they had gotten it right in the first place.

It's working again! And, it's far quieter than I remember it being when new.

Also, turns out there's a parts-only warranty that's still in effect. I'll try that avenue for some restitution.

I'd mention that it seems quieter than it did when new. Something could have been up with that bearing all along. Can't hurt to mention.

There is a good chance that the bearing was faulty from the get go. I'm pretty sure we had that on our last washing machine, a Kenmore front loader. It lasted 6/7 years before the motor bearing failed, and the new motor was EXTREMELY quiet. The old one had a grumbling sound from day one, it was not quiet. But then the drum bearings and pump both went, so at that point it was just easier and almost cheaper to pick up a new Samsung Front loader and dryer set from Best Buy when they were like 45% off if you bought both. FWIW those are also a year and a half old, and still working absolutely flawlessly. Made in Korea, both of them.

After ripping this one apart, it was almost easier and only $250 more to buy a cheap front-loader. If I were a tech, my labor for repairing would have exceeded that $250 price difference. At least I got the satisfaction of knowing it's repaired, and I have $250 more in my pocket than otherwise. Plus I got to do something with my tools that the wife was very pleased to let me do!

So far it's quiet enough at full tilt that I can clearly hear the drive motor whirring away when kneeling next to it. It never was quite that quiet before.

I followed up with Electrolux today. They are looking into it, and will get back to me on Monday. I supplied an invoice for the parts, and photos of the damaged parts. I'm not holding my breath on the outcome.

Electrolux customer service stinks. They're pulling things out of thin air to deny there was a problem. They've lost me as a customer for life. And I'm still fairly young.

Sears customer service has been amazing. They've really taken care of me after the sale by making sure the parts arrived and worked as intended. I'm definitely shopping at Sears for my next set of non-Electrolux-made appliances.

May I be the first to suggest Bosch? LOL! Seriously, I'm very impressed with the Bosch washer I purchased.... conveniently, also through Sears.

I've heard good things about Bosch appliances. Though we so far love our Samsung Washer & Dryer units.

Hmm, I was thinking of Bosch appliances today. The ones I've seen and used have been high quality, at least in appearance, sounds made, ease of use, and results.

Sears really out-did themselves making sure I was taken care of. I couldn't be happier with Sears customer service. The CS representative I had was great. Electrolux could learn a great deal about how to keep a customer from the Sears people I dealt with.

I just thought of the next big thing! Apple should sell the iwasher and idryer! It's brilliant! Stainless steel drums! Electric or Gas heating elements for fast, magical drying! Steam functionality to leave clothes uber-fresh!
