failed the vision test

Had to renew my physical yesterday. The dr was very complete. Not like the last dr that only checked my bp and hearing. The good part is that my heart,lungs etc are great.no sign of diabetes either.

W\o glasses im 20\45 in my right eye.

With glasses im 20\13 though. Im near sighted so reading a book and surfing the web on my phone is no problem for me.

He marked " must wear corrective lenses when operating a commercial vehicle" on the paper that goes to the dmv. I wonder if that means i still pass the car "non comercial" eye test?

You'll pass with glasses, but if you get caught not wearing glasses while driving you may get a ticket, or blamed for any accident involvement.

Someone with your vision is the perfect candidate for contacts being nearsighted.

If you weld or grind or work in dusty environment, you really dont want contacts .

Im creeped out when it comes to touching my eyeball.lol. i have been wearing glasses when driving for about 5 yrs now because things are so much clearer. But it has not been a requirement until now. I dont wear them at night because the glare blinds me.

I tried to wear contacts once. Paid the money for the visit, only to find out that I hate touching my eyes. Plus, in NH you *have* to go yearly to keep your presciption for contacts, plus you need to keep around glasses in case your eyes are bugging you (allergies or whatnot). Decided I'd rather go for LASIK someday. I'm nearsighted, quite so (anything after 24" turns into a blur); but I'm noticing I can't focus on things up close like I used to. No sense in being both near and far sighted at the same time.

The DMV probably has an eye machine for those who don't get slips/ electronic notification from their (eye) doctor ahead of time. You are, or will be, "in the system" anyway from your CDL physical.

I have a motorcycle endorsement and an eyeglass restriction. They don't get any more specific.

When you go in for a photo, they may ask if you're wearing contacts, if you are said to be needing them. They want corrective lenses in your photo.

Have you been checked for early cataract development?

After a few renewals by mail you have to go in person to renew the license. Had to do that recently which of course requires the vision test. They asked me to wear my glasses when getting my picture taken.

When I first go my license I was still able to see the letters good enough and passed. Next time I went in to renew had to wear my glasses for the vision test and they added the corrective lenses restriction on my license. I probably could drive without wearing glasses but the signs are hard to read and my night vision is not that great either. Of course I always wear my glasses when I drive but I'm sure most people don't like having a restriction marked on their license. My new glasses has the coating that supposedly reduces glare and it does help quite a bit compared to my old glasses.

I too went with Lasik back in 1999 and would do it again if needed....absolutely the best thing I've ever done for myself.

I went through the contact lense stage (uncomfortable in dusty,dirty conditions), eyeglasses (steps can be a challenge with bi-focals) and finally settled on corrective eye surgery.

Almost fifteen years later no issues except for the need for reading glasses for electrical schematics and stuff. Oddly, I never needed readers until I had bypass surgery. I keep readers all over my shop and mancave so they are never more than a few steps away.

That I think I'd be fine with. Here you can buy reading glasses with no prescription; but need to have a prescription otherwise. When I get some money saved up in my HSA I will have to give it some thought. Unfortunately I might wait until my son is out of the house, as he started wearing glasses recently; that's only another 10 years away...

Many states REQUIRE removing glasses for photos.

yes.they did the whole eye test and she even mentioned cataracts.said i was ok

California requires it now. The last time I went in for a new picture they had me take my glasses off. I wear contacts, started in December after wearing glasses since I was 4 years old.

What lens material do you have? Poly carb? I had the same problem with night glare even with the A/R coating. I recently switched to high index plastic lenses with A/R coating and it's much improved.
