Factory fill

If it meets oem specs, i don't care as i am dumping it withing 300 miles anyway. While i'm no fan of money going to china, is it worse than the middle east?

What's one more thing coming from China?

As long as it meets specs and is properly formulated who cares. Bottled in the USA doesn't mean anything as far as the product is concerned.

I got into this discussion at work today, I told my friend to back his comment.. I wouldn't care because I always dump factory fill between 1,000-1,500 miles. But it's possible China is a supplier as factory fill

The same as any other components of the car. That 4 qts of oil is probably 0.01% of the total part contents, and will be dumped in 10K miles.

Wonder how's the factory fill different for them to ship it all the way from China, it can't be cheaper than your local stuff.

actually it can. even with the high price of oil, and Diesel, it's all about the scale of the ships these days. esp container ships. for example, you buy a new TV that was made in China.
you will spend more in fuel moving that TV home, than was spent moving that TV across the ocean, and driving it across the country to (eventually) the store.

those ships are MASSIVE, with operational costs of several hundreds of thousands of dollars US per hour.
but they are large enough that they carry SO MUCH STUFF,that the transportation costs of any one specific item on board are negligible.

"economy of scale"

I couldn't care less.

Couldn't. I've been working on this myself.

Interesting article - thanks for sharing.

as long as they don't use "gutter oil" for base stock.

To be perfectly honest, I would be more concerned if it was sourced from the UAE, where what's in the bottle barely meets the specifications printed on the label. An MB Sheet 229.5 "approved" oil with a NOACK of 16%? No thanks.
