College Dorm...
After learning about triclosan and aluminum in soaps and anti-perspirants, I've began to wonder about facewashes. Now, I don't currently use one (just plain off-brand Irish Spring, even on my hair!), but I have in the past.

The two active ingredients I've come across:
Salicylic Acid
Benzoyl Peroxide

...

It's all good guys. I was stuck in a dorm room for a year with nothing to do (should have studied more in my earlier school days). We're all soo in touch with our manly sides (this being a board about oil and all); perhaps we should get in touch with our femanine sides?

used to use ivory. it made my face ugly. now i use the gilette mens face wash. it's suposed to be a all in one kind of complete skin care thingy. i'm still ugly, though.

I used to not worry about dry skin on my face but with the raw dry weather, it's a problem...so I go light on the soap...

Another weird thing about mid 40's...you start getting zits again (must be all the thoughts of younger chicks). I actually used zit creme late last year...pulled 'em out by the roots.....they didn't have that stuff when I was a zitty teen.

I like to be an informed consumer (and not only in regards to engine oil!)...it's better than choosing one product over another because the bottle looks better, or some other superficial reasoning.

Too much time on my hands? Who would have said that if I brought up a couple new topics about engine oil? Most people would tend to think that personal hygiene is more important than minimizing engine wear! Oh well...just shows how screwed up we are!

Yea...it's a chemical world..who knows what's in anything we use..short cuts on a consumer marketing level. Maybe the old fashion way is the best way to go...the simple things might be the answer..

Yeah, Mamala, I was just curious if you guys thought there was anything to avoid, or on the flip side, certain things to look for.

I've always wondered about the facewashes though. Sure, they clear up acne (supposedly), but if we're so concerned about triclosan, how good can it be to put acid and/or peroxide on your face a couple times a day?

I'm waiting for a post on feminine hygiene products.

Just yesterday I came across instructions on how to mcguyver a pair of comfortable, disposable slippers out of four maxi pads.

Face wash? Bah. Any mild soap will do. People with really sensitive skin, and that may well include some of us manly, though guys are probably advised to use some facial cream or lotion if we get too rough'n tough. Try some Red Line!

Hey, I'll admit it. I use Oil of Olay on my face in the winter and this stuff by Vasoline that's like a 90W axle grease for my hands also in the winter. If I don't, I'd look like "flake" man because of all the dry weather. I guess it's all those years of putting my hands in used oil and other chemicals that make my hands get so dry that they start to crack and bleed.

Dry skin can easily lead to exzema and makes skin vulnerable to cracking, to infections, and to contact dermatitis. Oh, and it makes you wrinkly -- I mean it gives your face character.

i use clearasil daily face wash. contains triclosan and no fragrance.

works.

but the stuff that is the best for me would be oxy face wash with .2% Benzoyl Peroxide (mild).

any other stuff is just too harsh.

i also use a wash cloth, as it scrubs the crap off of my face. make sure to wash it well though.

I use the same soap on my face as everywhere else. Lately it's a milk&honey sopa, with glycerin and palm oils, etc. lots of girly stuff. But it makes things smoother--plus the smell reminds me of my wife.
After shaving, I use some aloe gel, maybe mixed with a little tea tree oil, or olive oil.

Then I feel pretty, oh so pretty.....
