Hey guys, my 2006 6.0L diesel is having a metal on metal rattle, knock, I really don't know how to describe it. Its coming from the front end, most prominent when its cold outside, and when I'm accelerating (taking a little pressure off the front end)??

This has been going on for a few months. I recently changed all 4 shocks, had the rotors turned, repacked all the bearings and did a full brake job. It is BETTER since I changed all 4 shocks, but still there.

My truck has front coil springs, control arms, etc. It is a 2wd.

This morning after backing out the driveway and putting her into drive and taking off, there it was. bump bump bump bump..... metal on metal kind of sound. Extremely aggravating.
When I jack up the front end the wheels are tight. No play in the wheels like the bearings are bad or the hubs are bad.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what else I can check? Maybe the front coil springs? Control arms??
I'm really at a lost since I figured replacing the front shocks would have totally remedied the aggravating "bouncing up and down" metal on metal sound.

I'm getting the same thing with my car. I have replaced everything except the A arm bushings and torsion bar bushings. and it is noticeably worse now with my new struts and springs now that my front suspension is stiffer.

when it clunks/bangs I can feel it in the floor board/pan like someone it tapping it with a hammer.

I worked at an equipment dealership for 17.5 years and an independent shop for 5 years and what I have found out it that somebody good who works on certain kinds of equipment all the time knows stuff like that. Experience !!!

ok so your truck is 2wd, that means it has a twin i beam suspension. the i-beams are the large metal arms running perpendicular to the frame rails. the radius arms are the arms that run back from the i-beams.

I frequently have to replace the upper and lower ball joints on Twin I Beam suspensions. MOOG replacement ball joints last longer than the OE ones.

Looks to be one [censored] of a job on my truck. Just to double check, yesterday I removed my wheels and made sure the bearings were snug and the drivers side needed to be snugged a bit.
When I had the wheel off, I can grab the lugs of the rotor and when I lift up, with a ton of exertion, I can hear a small knock. I did it repeatedly until I got tired and I heard the small knock each time. So, maybe my ball joints??

When it warms up, hopefully in a few days, I will check those bushings and radius arm bots, and probably all connecting bolts on the suspension.

Here are some pics of the sway bar end links and sway bar bushings. Let me know if you fellas see anything that needs addressing. I checked the radius arm bolts and they are VERY secure. I couldn't budge them any tighter with a breaker bar and a cheater bar.
