Don't wonder why modern trucks are becoming less and less like trucks. Manufacturers design and build what they believe will sell and make a profit, as dictated by market (buyer) trends, while under the constraints of emissions & safety regulations. So this is what we get.
 
bring back simpler lighter 2 door trucks with a decent 6 ft box + manual tranny!!
My Nephew has a 99 F-150XL you might be interesed in....
single cab, long bed, 3.8v6, 5 speed.
no rust when he bought it 2 or so years ago ( was a FL truck Previously) but needs a paint job - clearcoat failure on all horizontal surfaces...20 years of Florida Sun...
first "mod" he did was weld in an Exhaust Cutout....and I think that's the only thing he's done besides install a more modern headunit.
 
Very few want a 2 door truck unless it’s cost savings for a work fleet. Even fewer want a manual trans in any vehicle

That’s why they aren’t being made. Not to mention a 8-10 speed auto likely gets better mpg for cafe
