The price of gas where I live on Long Island is just under $4 for regular. So I drove Past a Mobil today and the price was 4.99 for regular and 5.35 for Super. This is ridiculous. It seems like the they are closing a lot of Long Island Exxons and Mobils around here. I will boycotting all of their products.

They usually have higher prices here in NoVa. I only use them when they give you money back for using the speedpass.

In Europe it's about 8 bucks a gallon.

Because of taxes.

That's stupid. The person who owns the gas station sets the price. He does not work for Exxon; he is just a franchisee. Exxon has no control over the retailer's markup.

There are one or two stations gouging near Disney world and the Orlando Airport at around $6... the majority of stations in Tallahassee are in the $3.70-3.80 range for regular.

The best price I saw today was 3.89, only a couple miles from the 4.99 mobil. I don't think it is just the independent dealer's fault because there are a few mobils priced like this. I think Exxon-Mobil is getting off Long Island, they have closed a lot of locations.

Exxon does not own any more retail stations, and none of them are franchises. Apparently retail gas-station margins are too thin to justify Exxon allocating company resources to running them, so they sold them off.

Exxon stations are now owned and operated by several unrelated companies. Among them is a Canadian firm that specializes in convenience stores.

The price you see at the pump is misleading as to profit. An enormous chunk of the recent increase in gas prices is simply the decline of the US dollar, that being directly the result of current White House policy. Any area-to-area differences will be due to local taxes, local environment laws, and the pricing policies of the company that runs those particular stations.

Today in Oceanside, (L.I., NY) I paid $4.09 for Shell 89 octane. The Gulf station a few blocks away had regular for $4.99. I don't get it. The regular (87) is a full dollar difference.

XOM gas is comparable to other brand's prices in the west suburbs of Chicago. At least at the ones I've paid attention to.

Exxon-Mobil has always been expensive on Long Island, usually about 30 cents more a gallon then other brands. I guess the fact its a Top Tier gas hasn't crossed your minds, its just as expensive as Shell which is also Top Tier. You get what you pay for, the link below contains an interesting video that explains what top tier is.

Where in LI was this station? I see the Gulf stations on LI having the most insane pricing.
