extreme cold pending for DFW...

OT but while we're here, did you replace the factory bose amp with that JL space saver one? I'm so tempted to do it because no-highs-no-lows-bose but I don't want to cut into the factory wiring (unlike my previous focus with a big ole' sub box in the trunk.)
This seems to be the common upgrade for the CX-5 with the Bose system...

But no I haven't modified anything as in my twenties my friends and I all had crazy vehicle systems and quite a few of my friends won awards all over Chicagoland at car stereo contests, I'm talking like trucks with walls of subwoofers/amps inside. I never entered any contests I just had my friends that did install all of my stuff since they knew their stuff. I'm old now so gotta save whatever hearing is left after subwooofers and concerts of my younger days. I live like 3 miles from work now so wouldn't make sense to upgrade car stereo as wouldn't even warm up before I'd be shutting it off. My home stereo is insane though as home more than in the car these days.

Ok Mr Ercot, I'll get rid of my generator.
I am not ERCOT. I just don't like uncalled for hysteria. Keep your generator, I have one too. I am far more concerned with hurricanes than cold, but whatever.

All that said, the grid is not failing. No need to claim it will. The reserve capacity is there, and any outages are due to localized tree limbs.

Since you're making such an issue of this, why don't you read this aloud to yourself and come back and tell us all when I claimed the grid will fail. You certainly do jump quickly on this "hysteria" when perhaps you're the one that's hysterical. Got a mirror? Learn to let stuff go by. You don't even live here, I don't know why you're speaking to this. Go wait for your hurricane, in a non-hysterical manner.

Well I was wrong. We ended up at -14 on Saturday morning!
Burnt through a ton of wood in the wood stove I have in the garage but it maintained 85 or so all weekend so I could work on the jeep.
85 is disgusting. I heat my garage to 60 when I'm out doing a project.

85 is awesome [temporarily] though knowing outside is at 0. I used to do that with those propane tank heater attachments, let it rip in the garage until it was in the 80s and then it's shorts and sandals time.

I am concerned with how hard it's going to be to get into the car. I am only willing to pull so hard on that plastic door handle. My car will start just fine.
I used to get caught on this with my '93 Tercel a lot. The OEM handles were OK but they stopped making them and the replacements were Dorman...any frost at all and they'd break when trying to open. I replaced the driver's side one more than I care to admit!!

I do live in Texas, and I have for life. I am not the one posting huge screen shots from Wikipedia, or alarming anyone about any potential grid failure. Nor am I hurling repetitive sarcasm.

Again, Calm down.

The older I get the more I love the heat. I can still tolerate the cold, but prefer warm.
85 and there was very little moisture in the air - the wood stove just takes it all out. It was very nice!
I have enough wood for one more night. I've already run through 14 short bed pickup loads this winter in the outdoor wood burning furnace. It sure has saved me on electric though. If I hadn't burned any in the garage I would still have some left.

Gummi Pflege on the rubber seals. Works on American and Japanese cars too.
As an experiment, I did a test on Friday before the winter storm arrived on Saturday night. Applied silicone spray on the passenger side door seal and Gummi Pflege on the driver's door seal. Surprisingly, the silicone worked better than the Gummi Pflege (i.e., driver's door was stuck, passenger door opened easily).

I've had to do this on my Fords. For some reason the design of ford products must make the water run right down past the seal. Our Nissans, Jeeps, Subaru ... never had an issue with the doors freezing shut. But the Fords always do.

I've found just wiping down your seals & door openings after a wash will get rid of 95% of the door sticking problems but I have used silicon spray in the past with good results as well.

The ice and snow has started melting today. I had a bit of cabin fever, so I put the 4Runner in 4Hi and drove around the neighborhood and it’s about 1.5” of solid ice.

Looks like the major streets and thoroughfares are starting to turn into slush. It’ll probably re-freeze tonight.

My doors opened like Summertime at 11F this morning (Gummi Pflege). But some of you guys that live where it gets cold will just laugh at that temp.

I should add the engine ran great for years after those starts. It did just as well in 114F weather later on.
The weather in Chicagoland this week is finally perfect for any 40 and 50 grade oils. 😁
