Extended warranty for the Maverick, Yeah or Nay

The hybrid driveline is covered already 8yrs/100k miles and powertrain items are 5yr/60k miles.

The answer at end of day is your personal finances. Do you have $3k beyond the $2k for warranty to fix car readily available. If no or painful then maybe the insurance is worth it for you.

Wife and I throw cost of warranties(small and large) into special bank account for years. It over $15k.....We write checks for repairs that rarely happen under 150k.

If the power train is covered til 100k from Ford I’d probably pass. You have 12 months from new to purchase at the lowest cost, so I’d at least wait that long to see what pops up. It’s only $100 more if you buy after the 12 months but before 36 months. I’m contemplating getting one for my Raptor due to all the electronics. Ford is sending me a check for $800 since BlueCruise didn’t end up working for the Raptors. I’ll probably just put that towards a 7 year/125k Ford ESP from Flood or Ziegler.

Beings I have a fair chunk of change left over trading the Venza for the Maverick. Thinking of using about half for a Ford Premium Care extended warranty. Can purchase from Flood Ford for a 96 month 100K, $0 deductible w/full lighting protection inside and outside for $1785. This is a very competitive price for this level of coverage, from what I am able to see. It is $300 less with a $50 deductible. The best price my dealer offered was $2920. Which is $500 below retail price. Sorry at that price it's not a good value.

Will not do, until I am sure the Maverick is a keeper. Considering the new status of the Maverick I feel that this might pay for itself. If nothing else it gives me a rental for those recall visits the first three years. Would most likely increase the value if I decide to sell. It is transferable.

I know it is just a insurance policy. Searches at other policy providers seem a bit higher.

Yeah or Nay?
I bought one of those for my basic Ford Truck way back when. Didn’t use it.

Would do it again for the price.

I treated it as insurance though, not some cradle to grave thing. Second from the bottom coverage (basic car, remember). Pretty high ($500 I think) dediuctible.

Remember, it’s dead money for the length of the factory warranty, so choose length of term over level of coverage, in my opinion.

The insurance company has data and are betting you won't need repairs in excess of the premium. If you want to gamble, I'd put the money into stocks and see where you are in 8 years.
JK, aren't stocks like gambling in a casino these days. Sure seems like it to me. I watch CNBC daily.

Well yeah. They make a profit. So what?

Is fire insurance on your house also gambling?

A big part of their return is what amounts to interest-free use of your money especially during the term of the original warranty. That’s not unfair as long as you go into it with eyes wide open and take it into account in evaluating policy cost, length and coverage.

I wanted protection against major repairs for things that could keep me from getting to work, and also to protect the resale value of my truck had I bailed from the vehicle after a few years.

As I recall, the Ford ESP warranties were transferable for a modest fee. So, if you had a long-term policy with a couple of years left on it, you could offer a used car with a year or two left of factory coverage. No small thing to a used car buyer.

The paradox is that the policy is worth a lot more towards the end of its term. It would help you sell your car (presumably for a better price) if you so decided.

I'd pass on the warranty, learning that you already have 100K hybrid coverage. The big dollar stuff is covered for that length of time.

While I really like hybrids, it's pretty clear that selling before the big expenses come is a practical way to own one. Every hybrid in my extended family has needed a battery before 200K. I'm not at all sure an extended warr will cover you that long.

@Cujet
Well, I went to Zeigler and bought the Premium ESP $0 ded with First day rental and lighting package upgrades. $1785. Decided to go ahead with it now before I wasted the money on something else. I will also get a rebate from my credit card.

@jimbrewer has a good point on the resale value when it comes time to sell. Bought now because I feel 11 months from now these plans will go up a lot with the increase in parts and labor costs. Plus I wanted to get the whole purchased wrapped up. One thing left is license bureau. Tomorrow.

Special thanks to @Tribe21 for the Zeigler hookup, in total a bit over a $100 less than Flood Ford
Again thanks for all your inputs.

It's a high demand Ford, hurriedly built during a pandemic with parts shortages. Get the longest OE warranty and good roadside towing with rental coverage. Thank me later.

At that price I would get it. You have a new from the ground up vehicle in its first year of production. Look at what's happened to the Bronco.

I'd pass on the warranty too, take that cash and use it to trade when the factory warranty is up for a new Maverick...or something else.

There have already been a Maverick oil change thread with sparkles in the oil.

Consumer Reports says that these warranties are typically not worth the money.
