Extended warranty for my PSD

My credit union is offering a expended warranty for $58/month for 36 months with no mileage limit. $500 deductible. The truck has over 120K miles.

Considering if it will cover the whole exhaust.

I would make sure it covers the exhaust before purchasing, but still not too bad considering it's a diesel, IMO. Injectors alone will cost you more than the cost of the warranty! Rock Auto shows them at ~$380 each after the core charge, so with 8 holes to plug you're at $3K. Driving a diesel ain't cheap!

My used car warranty on my 2012 Ram did not cover the exhaust or any emissions related parts. It was weird, but i still got my monies worth from it with a whole new front end (ball joints tie-rods etc.) and a few other miscellaneous fixes.

It does not cover the exhaust. And the 120K miles is too high for the company offering the extended warranty. So no extended warranty for me.

They are usually full of crazy exclusions and the like. Aftermarket/used (lkq) part use, labor not covered to remove parts in the way of the broken part etc. Read very carefully

Go with the plan where you put $ 58 in a savings account every month. Actually, make it $ 100 and cover all of your vehicles. Then if anything goes bad, you have the "insurance" to draw on. I started doing that with I-bonds in a Treasury Direct account in 2009 for medical deductibles. My goal was to have $ 10,000 in the account. I am well above that now above that goal and continuing to contribute every month. Dave Ramsey is right, everyone should have a rainy day fund.

I never buy extended warranties on anything. I figure when I lose out on tool or something I still come out ahead overall.

If you are worried about truck and have no great reason to own diesel I believe we are at best time in history to sell.
