Extended warranty for my PSD

My credit union is offering a expended warranty for $58/month for 36 months with no mileage limit. $500 deductible. The truck has over 120K miles.

Considering if it will cover the whole exhaust.

I generally don’t like extended warranties, but this might be worth it. $2,088 is steep for only a 3 year warranty, but if you plan on driving a lot in the next three years then it’s a good deal.

Are they aware that it’s a Diesel engine? Typically extended warranties on diesels and hybrids are more money.

As already mentioned, check the fine print to make sure there are no weird maintenance schedules they will require you to follow.

I think he's probably more worried about the DPF and SCR filters going bad and needing replacing. Big $$.

The price sounds ok-ish, it’s that high deductible that doesn’t sound good to me.

Extended warranty companies are like casinos. The odds are always in their favor. They are not paying those executive salaries on the good will of their customers. If the deductible is $500 they already looked at the numbers and found that repairs on what they cover avg $500. If you believe that you will have 1 big repair over $2600 or 2 smaller repairs totaling $3100 then you will save how ever much over those costs are.
I would put $500 in a savings account and add $58 every month. At least then at 4 years when something lets go you will have $3300 for the repair.

Its the pickup in my signature. I believe the whole exhaust is $10K with all of the emissions pieces. Water in fuel, bug repair bill.

See if Injectors & the CP4 Injection Pump are covered.

I hear you but I never count on insurance companies overlooking anything. If you think you are going to put big mileage on it and the contract states they cover those parts of a diesel system it might be worth the gamble, Just be aware that most of those contracts say they wont cover anything unless specifically stated and only up to the value of the vehicle. Dont assume you know what they mean, if its not specifically stated they wont cover it. These things are about the only thing I agree with the state of California about, they have much stricter rules for 3rd party contracts which is why so many say Not Avail in Calif.

I followed through. Despite the email I got from the credit union, when I got more details, the company offering the extended warranty said the 120K miles was too high. Nothing available from them for my pickup.

Buddy had a similar warranty on a 6.0- engine blew.

Ford claimed water in the gas and denied the warranty.

He pulled sample and tested - no water.

Gas station pulled testing logs no water- didnt matter.

Id save the money. Fords doing everything they can to deny these.

In my experience, I have yet to see one go bad, even under ambulance service, with well over 25,000 hours of run time.

the list on the entire exhaust system is 3800$. I’ve only ever changed NoX sensors or DEF injectors. I have never had a SCR or DPF fail from wear.

The fuel system is more expensive to repair. An aftermarket water separator and a fuel lubricity additive would be a much better investment.

dieselsite makes a very nice one for about 700$. unless you wanted to plumb a filter head In yourself using caterpillar or equivalent filters
