Extended Drain Fram Filter

So we just picked up a new Hyundai Santa Fe with the 3.3. So thinking about 5,000 mile oil changes with a conventional oil-Brand yet to be determined. I was wondering what the opinions are on the FRAM CH10855 Cartridge Oil Filter for two drain intervals-a total of 10,000 miles.

Any thoughts?

I do a lot of oil changes for low income folks, some single moms, etc...
I ask them to bring the filter.
They often don't....
so a lot of them will see 2X oil changes. I have never seen one go bad due to high miles on clean oil. They really only fail if high miles on really dirty oil. 5,000+ OCI's on cheap oil are very common, and 15,000 on filters is getting very common.

Might be ok....what about grabbing a Fram Ultra and going for three 5000 mile intervals!?

CKN you are very smart and can manage this whole circumstance with ease. You have very likely looked at your manual already so you know what you can do and not do. I agree with Kuato about getting a Fram Ultra and running it three times if your manual gives you that kind of latitude. If you can't then you know what you can do as well. Those OEM filters are very well constructed.

I don't recall Fram advertising the Extraguard filters being capable of 10,000 mile oil changes. They advertise they will provide protection up to 5,000 miles.

Second, if you want to try 10,000 miles, then use $10 you saved towards a used oil analysis.

I've used the Fram cartridge filters before, didn't like how they came out crushed the 2 times I have used it. How much more expensive is the OEM Hyundai filter?
 
I've used FRAM cartridge one time when I owned a 2011 RX 350. Came out looking pretty good after 5k. Purolator Classic was mostly my go-to filter and it always looked good after 5k.

The worst was the Bosch/Pure One.

I suggest running the CH10855 and make an assessment after 5k. That's probably your best bet. There aren't enough folks here on BITOG who have first hand experience with the 3.3 to give you any reasonable answer to your question as to whether this filter will last 10k.

I have heard the OEM filter is around $15.00 at the dealer.

A search on the Fram website shows a Fram Ultra is not available for this vehicle.
 
If you want to save money, Wix WL10164 is $6 and change at Rockauto.

Looking at the white endcap on their picture, Wix probably sourced it from Mahle.

And I would have more confidence with a Mahle oil filter lasting 10,000 miles

To answer your original question.... maybe. I'm pretty sure a TG is ok for 7500.
 
It's under warranty still, change it every oil change at whatever the manufacturer recommends until the powertrain is up.
