I have an 89 mustang with the 5.0L HO motor that I run Delo 15-40 in. I replaced the rear main seal a few years ago hoping that it would fix the problem, but its still just pouring oil. Could it be due to excessive ammounts of seal softner in the Delo, or not enough? Should I switch to another oil, add an additive???

The problem may be improper seal installation,a damaged sealing surface on the crank shaft or block, worn out berings which lets the crank to move around and not allow the seal to work,or some other part or area leaking. The oil isn't the problem. Check the pcv, breather also.

Did you put RTV on the flywheel bolts? I believe some of these are through-holes on the 5.0.

Maybe the leak is from the bolts and not the seal?

I had the rear main seal replaced twice and still had the leak. Turned out to be the cam block plug.
