Excessive combustion blow-by... OCI?

I noticed that if my dipstick is out when the motor is running, i get a noticeable smoke/mist coming out of the dipstick tube. My mechanic also confirmed that this is a sign of excessive blow-by. What would be a reasonable OCI in this case? Most of my trips are 10+ miles in length, with some stop and go along the way. i know (at least i think i know) that excessive blow-by will produce acids that slowly reduce the useful life of the oil in the sump, to put it in simple terms. I'm just looking for some suggestions. the motor is a 2.4l Twin Cam 4 cylinder, 174,000 miles.

even with excessive blow-by? i dont see why not, but it just seems that with all that blow-by, the useful life of the oil decreases.

You're right, the useful life of the oil will be decresed as it will introduce acids in the oil which will decrese the TBN faster. If its bad enough it will also increase your viscosity. If you have to add oil that will help replenish the TBN. I don't think 4-5000 should be too long.

And maybe an overnight mmo or seafoam piston soak?

PYB should go 5Kmi.,but the filter may not.Replace filter at halfway point.allow the filter to drain for several hours then compare it's weight to an unused filter. My worn Ford engine caused the filter to weigh like a lead brick ,even after draining overnight!A worn engine with blowby also gets the oil very hot and shortens the oil life. The additve called 'RESTORE' reduced the oil use in the FOrd ,but use your own judgement before using additives.

well, dont wad up the knickers just yet....excessive blowby, i.e. blowby that *I* would be concerned about, would be an oil soaked crankcase vent filter.

If not, you simply opened a 'portal' to heck, the hot crank oil and well, oily hot air is present. its even messier if you open the oil fill.

of course I am unable to see, smell, touch hear or taste the motor from this distance so my opinion is worth what you paid for it

I suspect a slugged up ring pack and or a poor functioning PCV system. Why not investigate those areas? Aut-RX treatment is good for frozen ring packs and a new PCV valve and cleaning the piping may work wonders.

nope, the piping is clean and the pcv system is all in good shape. but i've tried arx, mmo, seafoam, etc., all in the crankcase. and i've run many synthetics in this engine, so i'm assuming that my motor is as clean as its going to get. but i've heard that its nearly impossible to keep rings from getting gummed up.
