I saw these in the neighborhood in the past week. My thought was these dumb people are somehow doing what they need to do in spite of electric power. ;)

The Rivian is set up for offroad camping and I'd say from the dusty lower body and wheels the gear isn't just to be trendy. And with Cali plates they had to come a ways to get here.

The Tesla driver doesn't know he can't tow stuff so he's just doing it.

Little to no EVs in Rural Western New York.

My area of New York State may remind some of Appalachia.

Wow those houses are close together.
As far as the Tesla and Rivian I dont think those people are dumb, they just dont mind having an EV, the slow method of charging it and lack of locations, at least when they first bought it, some people get tired of it.
Tesla Model 3 has a tow rating of 2000 lbs.

ICE owners arent dumb either, they have much faster charge times and more convenient locations to charge (re-fuel)
Whatever works for the buyer.

There are at least 4 Teslas on my block and several Bolts.
My next door neighbors leased one of the early electric Rav4 SUVs; they are now on their 2nd Bolt.
My other next door neighbor has a base Model 3; across the street is a nice Model Y (hubby drives some incredible sounding Benz sports car); next to them is another Bolt.

And they all borrow my Tundra.

We have owned three different i-MiEVs over the past five years. The current one is about two years old and is perfect for the 90+% of the local driving we do.

I did buy a 2017 Chevy Bolt LT with 125,000 miles on it for $9600. That one still has the original battery. I have thought about selling the little runabout but as a dealer, my job is to put food on the table and that means never falling in love.

Nobody else on our block has an EV.

I have not seen any electric cars in my hood yet. We are either too poor to buy one or they just won't hold up to our roads.

It's funny, most people are very openly anti EV and they're all of a sudden popping up everywhere. There's now 3 Teslas on my street alone and at least another 3 or 4 in town. It's a town of 16k people. It's overwhelmingly Tesla here for electric, but there's at least one Rivian R1T that lives here or comes through constantly. I think they're just in the area because I usually see it at the local charger so I'd assume they're away from home. We're surrounded by rural areas and farms and full size trucks are by far the most popular vehicles here. I also see the occasional ID.4 and Mach-Es. I've seen a lot more Prius here lately too. All of us hipsters are taking over downtown so maybe it's just bringing new people here, not converting those already here. 😂

Seriously though it's really cool to see.

I’m somewhat saddened… definitely 2 new Rivians here, and a buuunch of teslas, more everyday. I have a casual eye on the Honda prologue for my wife. BUT, watching the $, all of these seem priced for the early adopter. She’ll need a new car in a couple of years and is willing to try electric, so the timing would be great, but I have this feeling that the cost wont be on the practical side, which is where we tend to be. And that is what has me a little saddened I guess. There is still a premium pricing for a full electric. Hybrid vehicles seem to be the ”sweet spot” right now.

We've got 1 Model 3 on the block
It's owner put on the Christmas and new years light show for us yesterday 😀
We had a Mach E 🐎, but he only rented a house for 6 months, then he left 🤷‍♂️

I'm not in the new car market now, I plan on letting this Fusion ride for another 3-5 years, after selling my Camry

However if I get a new role at work, the $26k Bolt seems a compelling value at current new car pricing

Why would I pay more for a Camry/Sonata/whatever NPC mobile?

Plus I get employee pricing, so more options 🥰

A heated steering wheel will enrich my life 😂

That's how we ended up with the RWD Model 3. We wanted to go electric but didn't want to spend big money. Not that $48k is a small amount of money. We had our concerns about going 2wd for winters here but it's much more stable due to its weight than the GTI in the slick stuff. Both will get dedicated winter tires next year.

If we do like it overall over the next few years then we'll consider getting another electric car, but for right now 1 electric car and a fuel efficient car works well for us.
