I bought an AC delco air filter, for my 95 neon year and a half ago... paper filter. Upon inspecting it, 7,000 miles and year and ahalf later, its not too noticebly black, still LOTS of whote fitler area exposed. Ive used fram air filters, and by this time, they would be BLACK. Maybe Acdelcos arnt all that great air filters? comments? facts?

In what I have seen about AC Delco, they have the best diesel air filters when put head to head with others...I would assume all their air filters would be similar in quality.

This was years and years ago, but I think it was Hot Rod Magazine that did a flow bench test on air filters. As I recall, they said the Fram filtered the best but was also the most restrictive.

I would think dust conditions were different. A year and a half ago includes two winters, if you had a wet summer last year, that could be a clue.

I've had paper filters plug up in a year, and the next one lasts 4 years....

I think AC is a good brand, but most OEMs are, have you seen this?:

AC Delco outsources their air filter manufacturing to a few companies, the specific model number of filter seems to stay with a single manufacturer though.

there seems to be a wide gap in quality between the vendors though, so dont assume you are getting something of amsoil quality just because a few of their filters are top notch.

Perhaps one of those newfangled high-falutin' oil analysis thingys to seek out debris that may have snuck past your air filter and entered your engine's innards.

The local brainy-type brains could likely tell thee more and what to do etc.

Kill a couple feathered friends with one Pablo's rock with an oil analysis. If you haven't done one yet you'll have a baseline for future comparisons and you may be able to determine of that filter failed you when you were counting upon it.

If the analysis shows airborne crud you may be able to approach A/C Delco and demand compensation. I guess.
